Horse Insurance

Do you have insurance for your horse(s)? What do you think of it?

I have insurance for mine. They paid for my first horse's mortality, and my current horse's ulcer treatment. I think it is worth it for me. I believe the rate for mine is $1,400 yearly, which is relatively cheap.

I don't have it for rena, I don't think I ever really will... unless I get a 400 000 dollar horse one day... lol I will cross my fingers for a horse worth that much......

I don't know enough about it to really have a firm opinion.
My thoughts are that I wouldn't be able to afford it and it wouldn't really be worth it. I mean, I bought my horse for $2,000 and she's not going to be worth much more than that as she ages with the bad market here.
I think I would more strongly consider getting insurance for a horse that I invested a lot of money into.

I'm getting insurance for my new horse. I cannot really afford to lose the money if something happened to him, which is how I weighed up the 'expense' - Can I afford to lose what I paid for him and be okay. From my research insurance is usually 3.5 per cent annually of the horse's worth. Also it's a safety net I didn't have with my other horses and wish I had done (not just mortality but to cover certain vet costs).
