Horse licking!

Yesterday my horse Banjo (who is very sweet and affectionate) decided he was a dog! I was filling the water trough and he came up and started licking my arm. At first I was suspicious it was a precursor to a nip, but he never put his lips on me. He just stood there and licked all up and down my arm for several minutes! It was a hot day and maybe he was just licking the sweat off, but I like to think it was an affection thing. I have never had a horse do this before, and just wondered if anyone else's horse licks?

Does he have a mineral/salt block out in his pasture? If not, yes, he was probably licking the sweat off your arm for the salt.

Yes he does have a salt/mineral block and he licks it a LOT, even though he gets extra minerals in his feed daily. I think he might be a bit of a salt addict! (Or perhaps there is something he is missing in his supplement and the block- but how can I figure out what?)
