Thanks for sharing! I may just go ahead and order it (as I don't think our local Red Box has it for rent anymore).

I adored Secretariat. Yeah, it was definitely Disney-fied, but a good story nonetheless.

The funny part is that I already knew the outcome, having actually watched him win the Triple Crown, but I still got tense and excited during the race scenes. Laugh!

Another movie I plug every time someone asks about horsey movies is In Pursuit of Honor. An apparently fictionalized account of the last US cavalry remount unit. True or not, it was a good story.

Old one that I'll usually stop and watch when I see it on TV is "Pit Pony" about a pony, that spent it's whole life in a mine.

And, Remember the old Disney film. Haven't seen it since I was a kid, and I'm 49, "The Boy and The Medicine Hat Stallion" Leif Garrett was a pony express rider... Couldn't tell you if I'd like it now, but remember liking it then.

Always watch reruns of Snowy River, Hidalgo, Sea Biscuit, Secretariat, and most of the one ones ya'll have mentioned above.

Thanks to the YouTube link, I saw "Ruffian" and was pleasantly surprised. Being a made-for-TV ESPN movie, I thought it was going to be *awful* and while the acting and the writing were pretty pants at times, it told the story well enough to suck me in, even knowing its tragic end.

I've read good reviews of "Dreamer" on this website. Maybe that will be my next procrastination project.

I admit, I haven't much patience with cheesy movies or ones with laughably bad acting and writing, so that said, I thought the Silver Brumby was one of the best horse movies I have ever seen. Fabulous cinemetography, and not much acting which could go wrong, as Russell Crowe spent most of it riding and hardly saying a word.

Ruffian is really good too! BUt oh my soooo sad! I never started crying So quickly in my life. I won't reveal the punch, but it was pretty much, BAM, (IT happened) 1 second later I was in tears, and 2 seconds later I was sobbing, feeling absolutely dreadful.

Good movie though. :)

Eh, I'm not sure you're going to like it. It was pretty awful, in my opinion.

And for something to look forward to...

War Horse is coming out this December I believe. The movie is based on a great book that follows a farm horse through out it's life on the farm to becoming part of the cavalry in Europe in WWI (I think). Steven Spielberg is directing so I am very very much looking forward to it. :)
