Green Broke
I LOVE threads like this. I can read through and copy stuff, so I don't have to dredge through my > 50 years of memories--Thanks, ALL!
Here are my favorites, in no particular order:
Black Beauty
The Black Stallion
The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit
My Friend Flicka
National Velvet, however, WHO writes a story where the rider falls of and blows the race?
Secretariat (Had to buy it--I watched him race!! BTW, Penny liked "Riva Ridge" better.)
Miracle of the White Stallions
Thanks a LOT, Royal Pine Buck--You got me watching this today, when I've got a long list of stuff to do!!!!!!!
Seabiscuit
This is Probably my favorite, bc, as a Theater Major and parttime filmmaker I really love the character development along with a great telling of the true story.
The Story of Seabiscuit, ditto
War Horse, is now on Broadway, so it's been transcribed twice, the 2nd to a film as referenced above

I KNOW this isn't a movie, but, as part of the mini-series, "Centennial", you should watch, "The Longhorns" episode sometime. I Always admired the actor who played (rode) as "Nate Person," but I didn't know until recently that he was at one time a rodeo rider. His seat is magnificent--doesn't move, he and his horse are one unit.

Most of mine are from my childhood, I watched them as a horse crazy kid who never had riding lessons yet or any contact with horses and dreamed. Watching them now as an adult I can completely pick them apart because of my horse experience and I studied film at university, and most of them are old or low budget movies with a cheesy plot. But none the less I still love them and watch them for the pretty horses and nostalgic value. I usually stay away from the racing movies as I don't like horse racing but unfortunately that's what the majority of horse movies are.

My favorites are:
My friend flicka (the 1943 one) and both even cheesier sequels. I love the first the most since I didnt see the sequels until last year, and as a kid I was SO jealous of ken living on the ranch with all those horses.
Black Beauty (the 1971 film, I can't bear to watch any other)
Rogue Stallion (if anyone knows of this one in dvd anywhere let me know, i've been looking for years)
Lightning the white stallion (completely unrealistic and easy to pick apart, but another one my parents put on for me as a child to shut me up about horses for awhile)
Man from snowey river
The horse whisperer I like now but when I first saw it the accident part upset me.
Dreamer is a nice movie but I don't watch it as a horse movie and its not my favorite, BF LOVES it though
Spirit eventhough its a cartoon
And its not a horse movie but unicorns, I adore The last unicorn

And oh I am SO excited for warhorse!

I never saw the new flicka, i'm too attached to the old one that I don't know if I can watch it, and I don't want to watch the second.

I know I have some more but I can't remember the names, I only have a few with me on dvd, the rest on vhs at my parents house, I need to dig them out and write them down next time I go.
