Horse Riders assault female mtn bikers

It seems somebody out there is giving us horse riders a bad name. Mountain bikers already hate us enough. Here's the story:

Oh lord. First of all I can't believe a horse would hit a bike, no matter how hard the rider trys to get them to.
The story sounds a bit like the biker might have made up/changed it a bit. But who knows.

I can't imagine that "swinging the reins" could move a horse's head quickly enough to shove someone. Or that a horse would just walk right into a biker.

But, who knows. If it happened, that really sucks. But it sounds like something out of a Disney movie - you know the bad guy on the evil horse who tramples over anything he's pointed at?

Lol, exaggerating much? How in the world do you swing a horse's head with reins?

"The first biker turned around to see her friend get hit with the horse's chest as it pushed past her, and the 2nd horseman pulled on the reigns to swing his horse's HEAD into the biker's shoulder!"

Ok. That I don't believe.

Sounds like some girls just wanted some attention.

Yeah that is kind of what it sounds like to me.

There is a huge problem with that here at a local state (I think) park that is shared by horse riders and mountain bikers. The mountain bikers was the horses off their trails and its gotten nasty. Really sad.

I really don't get why mountain bikers seem to hate equestrains so much. I read all the posts on there, and the majority of them were being plain rude. Someone suggested [most likely in jest, but still] that fireworks would 'even the playing field a bit'. Oh yes. Others mentioned wanting to smack a horse's butt as they walk past.

And you wonder why mountain bike x horse accidents happen? I think if they came over here, they'd understand that we don't condone or tolerate rude people on the trail either, and not all equestrians are [and I quote]:
"knuckle-draggin, terracotta-toothed, subliterate rednecks on horseback."

*shakes head* There are bad people in every sport, they shouldn't ruin the reputation of all.

Why would they lie? Obviously they could of, but quite frankly, I see a little bit of that "equestrian entitlement" attitude showing.

I could definitely make my horse bump into someone - I couldn't make her "trample" someone, but she would obey me if I made her bump into someone. This COULD also be innocent - a poorly trained horse got spooked, and in bumping the rider and another horse being reined in and tossing his head, this could have been a lousy misunderstanding.

At the end of the day, you don't know, but I find it difficult to believe these bikers just hate horses so much they made it up. I KNOW of people ignorant enough on a horse to do something like this. And not saying sorry is pretty ridiculous, regardless of what happened.

When I lived in CA and had horses we used to go up to that trail as well as another one "whitings Ranch" and in CA there is a HUGE issue with mountain bikers vs horses. Most MB groups complain about the horses having right of way over them because they feel they should have the right of way because they go faster and have a harder time stopping at such speeds. The horse people say they should have right of way because a horse is more unpredictable than a bike. It's been an argument in CA for over a decade. So we have two groups of people at war with each other.

In this scenario I see a possibility of the horsepeople being a little rude to begin with and the bikers blowing their initial rudeness out of proportion. This is what tends to happen when waring societies are invited to the same party...the Capulets and the Montegues, The Jets and the Sharks, the Hatfields and the McCoys. You have them both in the same place, something is GOING to happen and somebody is going to exaggerate it to his pals to escalate the whole war and to make themselves feel like they have the right to feel the way the do about the others...
