Horse Shows

We've never been to a horse show and there is the Gulf Coast Horse Show going on this weekend on the beach. We are planning on attending tomorrow night to see what its like. We've been to plenty of rodeos, never a horse show.

I was wondering if any of you could give me an idea of what to expect during the show. Is it fairly fast paced or is there a lot of down time between each one and each style?

Are you competing or just watching? For competitors it's a lot of hurry up and wait. For spectators it's pretty boring actually, it gets repetitive  there's usually a short break in between disciplines, and usually a 30-60 minute lunch break between English and western.

Spectator.

I figured it would be something different from the local 4H shows and give the kids something else to see. I'm assuming the public doesn't go back around the competitors to talk as they are all busy getting ready? Was thinking it would be good to let them see some of the hustle and bustle that happens before hitting the arena if they decided to get into it.
