Horse Slaughter Legalized

Hmm. I know that it's quite a controversial topic, but I'd just like to share my concerns and see if anyone shares them...?

My number one concern is for the safety of my horses. Slaughter is a money-driven industry, so I can see a lot of people buying horses for cheap at auctions and such and selling them to slaughter and things like that. My concern is horse theft I'm really worried that more and more horses are going to be stolen... which puts mine at risk, obviously.

Another concern is that since the consumption of horses was also legalized, if people eat American horses, they're going to get very sick. I'm sure that most of you, and pretty much every other horse owner in the country, regularly apply fly spray to your horses in the summer for comfort and health, right? Well it says on the labels of most fly spray bottles: "Not for use on horses intended for slaughter." If mainstream horses are being slaughtered... well, do the math, eh? Also, dewormer could be a concern. Dewormer is rather toxic, and when a horse is dewormed, the chemicals enter the bloodstream and most ticks will die because of this. But if you don't deworm a horse, it's a sad, unhealthy mess and that is, indeed NEGLECT!

I don't see very strong logic behind this movement. What do you guys think? Do you share any of the same concerns?

Also, not really. Most of the things listed as "not for animals intended for human consumption" are actually perfectly safe for people to consume after a short withdrawal period. They just put those labels on for legal protection.

If you're concerned about theft, have your horse freeze branded and microchipped.

It was also never illegal to eat or slaughter horses in the US; Federal funding was just cut, which drove the plants out of business. I seriously doubt that many Americans are going to jump on the eating Trigger bandwagon....it's still going to be exported to Asia and Europe, as it was before.
