I am very much for humane slaughter. A pretty unpopular opinion...but banning slaughter ruined a lot of the horse economy. I believe it should be legal with regulations. Horses WILL be slaughtered either way. Shipping them on a long and hard trip out of the country to slaughter them really isn't helping anything...

Fugly had a really good article up recently about slaughter.

There's no poll showing up for me, but I suppose I'm "anti-alternative". Slaughter is a necessity, I just want to see the regulations enforced and the industry to stay here in the States rather than necessitating the difficult trip across the border.

Piaffe, slaughter was never banned in the U.S. The funding was simply cut.

Yea...I meant banning slaughter ruins the horse economy. A lot of people want it to be illegal still. We actually had a big horse slaughter house open not that far from us so at least the horses won't have to go out of the country now. It is kind of sad to see so many horses go through that really are good (not lame, old, etc.) horses.

Horse Slaughter is a ****ed if you do and ****ed if you don't, kinda thing!! I think horse slaughter is Necessary. BUT i think they need to have WAY more stricter rules. And a more humane method for getting the dirty deed done.

I doubt ANY pro-slaughter individual *likes* it. I think everyone would agree that it is not ideal, not good, and they wish it didn't happen. Unfortunately, until alternatives are found there has to be an outlet for the surplus. Stopping slaughter right now won't fix the problem or remove the surplus.

I never thought I would EVER be pro-slaughter. Ever.

But it breaks my heart to see so many horses in bad conditions, some so bad that there is no chance of making it.

I'd would rather have the horse killed, than to just die standing there in pain. Although I wouldn't like to see that horse used for anything, but for those horses that can't be adopted I'd much rather see them put down than standing in a corral or at a rescue just waiting and never being taken!

Auctions are great too! I would much rather buy a horse from a rescue than breed my mare or have a foal bred for me.

It's an awkward thing to try to explain my thoughts on it.

I am pro humane slaughter as it is the best possible end to suffering from over breeding/neglect etc...

That said, I am NOT for hauling horses out of the country as the trip itself is cruel beyond words. There MUST be a better way.
