Okay, so I've been thinking about starting one of these for a long time, mostly because the "mature adults" have a thread, the 20 somethings have a thread, the teens have a thread, but what about those in-between?

Plus, I think there's problems unique to our age. Moving out, going to college, finding a full-time job for some, and transitioning from kid to adult. And, of course, making time for the horses.

So, here's with introductions:

I'm Corazon (well, on here...hehe that's not my real name), I'm 19, and a second year student at one of the community colleges in Iowa. I'm studying journalism and will be transferring to Iowa State next fall. Hopefully I'm taking my horse with me. I tried to go to a private college right out of high school but wasn't mentally or emotionally ready to move out. Anyone else been there? I still feel really stupid because I just couldn't "do it" on the day of move-in. So I went to the cc and now I think it's time. Excited but nervous!

So, what's up guys?

Well, I can afford because I am fortunate enough to have my parents pay for my schooling. It's really special to me because my grandma wanted to go to college but didn't have to money to, so she made sure that she saved up for my mother and her siblings so they could go to college. My mom and dad did the same for me.

As for my horse, he currently lives at home with us. When I move next year, I think I will take him with me. I work at the grocery store part-time and put in 20-30 hours during school and when school is out I'll hopefully be getting 30 hours or more. I just got a raise (BIG SMILEY!), and I'm hoping that helps. I guess I'm not a big spender, and I have some other funds saved up.

As for time with my horse, I set aside one night a week to do lessons. If I don't work, I'll ride for an hour if it's nice after school. I don't know what it will be like when I go to university because community college has been good to me.

Well, I took my government exam today and I felt pretty decent about it. We'll see about the others...

I would have loved to keep my ag major but I would have had to relocate for school, and relocate when I found a job... Not an option.

My horse(s) live at my dads. He pays the feed bill, vet bill, etc etc. "My" meaning my horse will never be sold, etc. Thankfully my husband supports my horse stuff, so I do take on part of the expense for my horse.

I'm lucky enough to be in central Oregon near the state university and in a very highly agricultural area. I love it here. Lots of livestock, just my style lol especially all the cows and horses. Ill probably have to relocate to find a job though but I hope not.

Well hello everyone!! It's so nice to know that i'm not the only lunatic trying to balance work school and horses! I'm 20 yo. and work full time as a vet tech, go to school part-time as a pre vet student. I own and care for 4 horses as well. although 2 of them can count as one lol.. I have 2 miniature mares, a 16 yo gelding, and a 8 mo filly! Also my boyfriend of 3 years who helps me out with so much! I have absolutely no extra time on my hands for anything extra! especially since my gelding just decided to rip his hind leg open so now he get meds and bandage changes twice daily for the next few weeks. thankfully/amazingly everything will be healed up as good as new in about 6-8 weeks, and nothing was perm. damaged! and of course a 8 mo filly also leaves with with no extra time.. so as you can read my life is crazy lol! i wish everyone the best of luck with trying to juggle life. though with horses, you can never go wrong!!!! =]

I was an officer in FFA in high school. Was the secretary.

It definitely sucks not having a horse an majoring in equine stuff. I sold mine cause I went into engineering originally and now I want her back. Feel stupid for selling her but at least I get updates.

Well I am at University as long as been a 20 something so I think I'll slip in here as well :P

I'm 20 and studying Psychology. Love it do death (most of the time) but all the years of studying seems really daunting and at times mildly depressing. I just went to my sister's graduation today and I saw a girl I went to high school with graduate with a bachelors.

Le sigh. I'll have one...one day.

Oh, man, I don't know if I could be patient enough to wait for the position to open up, Conway! I'm not a very patient person.

Took my journalism final today. I think I did okay, like maybe a B. Ethics is going to be horrible as I haven't kept up with notes in that class at all...

Ugh I always get so left behind in the conversations. >_< Anyhow. I have quarters too and love them. Semesters take WAY too long. I get bored rather quickly (or brain dead what ever option you choose) and need a break after a while. So only 10 weeks at a time are wonderful for me. I took a couple JC class and they are semesters (16 weeks). I almost plucked my eyeballs out....that and because I had a bio class that was 6 hours long two days a week. (3.5 hour lecture then a 10 minute break before a 2.5 hour lab) Shorter is better for me.

I have always struggled with grades, and I just found out I got 3 'B's in my Microbiology, Animal Diseases and Meat Sciences (A class I retook cause I failed it last time) an 'A' in my MB lab, and a pass on a pass/fail Microcomputing class. Best grades I've gotten since I've started college and these have been some of the hardest classes. Maybe I'm finally getting into the college groove...only 3 years late.

Hahaha i know how you feel about getting into the "groove" of college horsesdontlie... I have always struggled with grades because i have always just wanted to be out at the barn rather than at school =P and thanks! I took three years of french in high school so this class was a breeze =D lol i have also had professors i couldn't understand! I had this computer class my freshman year of college and the only thing i understood him say completely was "i know very little about computers but the university needed someone to fill this 100 level class..." i dropped it about a week later lol

Ugh, well I have done really well on everything, but I know I will bomb my ethics final today. I haven't studied, paid attention in class, took notes...pretty bright, huh?

I can't stand the dude (dud) that teaches it. He's a reverend, which is okay by me, but he has a monotone voice that puts me to sleep and he talks all the hooey-fulloooey that the book talks that I don't understand and really don't care to understand.

I have a really hard time staying on task and being motivated to get homework done. Anyone else have this problem? What do you do to "fix" it?

I'm 19 and finished college this year, am I allowed here?

I did my GCSE's at 16 and then left school, choosing not to do my A levels and went to college instead. I did a Level 3 National Diploma in Animal Management and had a great time. Went to Exmoor and South Africa! I finished college this year in June, aged 18. In July I was accepted at a competition yard.

Now, aged 19, I am working 5 days a week there, and I get a small wage, a riding lesson and a lecture every day :) I am training to be an instructor.

Ugh, I'm trying to make it so that I can take summer classes this summer at a community college near me and have the credits transfer to my university but so far they are both being uncooperative. That's not a surprise.

And Corazon, for the no motivation to study, how I work with that is I reward myself. I'll study for an hour and a half and then give myself a half hour of relaxation time. You have to be firm with the cut off for the relaxation time otherwise you'll keep extending that "relaxation" period.

Otherwise all you can do is force yourself to study. I hope someone else has some advice for you, because that's all I have for you. Good luck.

Agreed, this is about the only way that i can stay focused. Even then it is still a struggle to get things done :?

Sometimes I think I would do better hands-on than normal classroom stuff. I have trouble internally motivating myself to do stuff, and I really wish I wasn't that way. You see, I never had to study in high school - I could just get A's. I'm still somewhat like that at college, but I need to quit procrastinating.

Well, I'm not sure if I flunked my ethics final or not, but my grade is at a C+, so hopefully I won't do too much harm to that. I know I got an A in journalism and an A in Health and Nutrition, and then Group Communications and American National Government could be A's or B's. We'll see.

So what are you guys doing over Christmas break? I'm working 30 hours a week at my grocery store...

Studying became my major problem after high-school since high school taught me jack squat. The only thing I learned was to BS my way through any essay and surprisingly it has gotten me excellent grades. But tests.....bleh. In high-school I never really had to study.

In college I have found flash cards studying about 2-3 hours a week and then cramming for 2-3 hours the night before and a 30 minute review right before the test. This is working pretty well for me.

As for the winter break, I'm moving into a room that I am renting, working at my job and hopefully going snowboarding a couple of times. ;)

A teacher once told me that the best way to make something stick is to teach it to someone else. After lectures we would get together a group to discuss what we learned. I never had to study but I was constantly talking about the material to people I knew. Drove my hubby crazy lol If you dont use it, you will lose it. Also by talking to other people you can learn more, you hear a different prespective, and its easy to understand after you've talked it out.

Well, I have passed all of my classes for this semester. An "A" in Evolution of Warfare, an "A" in The Science of Human Nutrition, a "B+" in Kinesiology, I was reall surprised at this one due to a few failed quizes. I loved that class though. The teacher was great and I learned so much in it. And a "C+" in Chemistry. Which normally wouldn't be a good thing but where I go to college a C+ in Chemistry is like getting an A. Which is really sad, but I passed Chem, onto the next Chem course!
