Here I go again, sounding like a crazy person:

Has anyone here used an animal communicator? I have been wanting to give it a try, not for anything in particular, just out of curiosity. I thought I would put feelers out and see who folks have used and who they would recommend.

Karlie, if it's something you want to do for fun, just for laughs, go for it. But for me they're a joke. I feel the same way about animal communicators that I feel about physic readings, fortune tellers and other such non-sense. It's just for amusement and shouldn't be taken seriously. From what I have seen of these individuals they're just people who know how to see a horse, spot a few things about that horse from their background in the horse world, then feed what they know into the owner to sucker the owner into their wide world of bull****!

You can do the same thing, given enough horse education and training. Then go out and charge an arm and a leg to other suckers who believe in animal communicators.. lol

You want to sound crazy....tell people you don't feed your horses wheat...

But to you question....PM frlsgrl, she knows one!

Now that I think about it, I DON'T feed my horses wheat! They get hay, hay pellets and a vit/min supplement. No grain for these burn barrels on legs.

Oh it would absolutely be for entertainment more than anything else. I'm NOT using for a training issue or anything. My geldings both have very strong personalities and I just wonder sometimes if they have opinions they wish I would get, haha.
I am a scientist through and through, but a very open minded one. For ages I believed animal communicators were full of bologna. But I have a few, equally logically-minded friends and fellow riders who were absolutely blown away by some of the communicators. And one of my friends took a class on it in college. She explained some of it to me and it does make sense to me. She never could get a good read on anything but cats, haha.

For fun or just to see how it goes, that's ok but I really don't believe people can "talk" to animals, I believe some people are really good at reading horse's signals and way of expressing themselves and can understand what they are signaling, just a simple example, if a horse lays back it's ears at another horse, that is a signal to watch out, some people are very perceptive about understanding horse's minds.

I think if people could really talk to horses and understand what they are saying trainers and Veterinarians would find them very useful.
Such as, a trainer could have the procedure for a flying change explained to the horse in horse language and then the horse could do it every time. Or a horse could tell the person exactly where they hurt and when, so the Vet would know exactly what the problem was.

I have been to Clinics and seen demonstrations and it is entertaining.

People ask DH all the time why I am not afraid to ride my young horses....and he tells them that the horses tell me when it is the right time....and they do!

Then DH had what has come to be referred to as "the E.T. experience", where the TB gelding was sending him messages....long story, but the horse would have been coyote dinner if we had not gone to get him.
DH does not even believe in chiropractic....much less AC!!!

Have fun with it!

What do your horses want? They want apples, carrots, horse cookies. They want shade in the summer and a warm barn in frigid winters. They want fresh water in clean water containers that lack algae, slime and muck. They want good medical care. They want hovels that don't hurt. Then they want to be left alone! LOL!

Hey look, I'm an animal communicator! Hehehehe! Yeah, I think it's fun to do things like this on rare occasion. But I would be laughing though all of it, I wouldn't be able to keep a strait face. Just listening to the person spout off a bunch of hog wash would entertain me to no end.. And if they happened to spot something about my animals that I didn't already know, I'd probably beat myself up a bit over it. I'm going to be a stickler about my critters. Getting them the best care I can. I wouldn't like it if I over looked anything. I'd be hitting those books again.. lol

My horses talk to me all the time. I walk out the door in the morning, and they're telling me, sometimes loudly, that it's time for breakfast. I walk out mid-day and they tell me, again some days louder than others - that they want to be moved to the grassier field. Same with dinner time.

And then there are the non-verbal conversations we have. "Saddle? Oh no, please, not today! Oh... all right. Sheesh - you saddle me and then leave me tied to the fence while you play with him?!? So not right. Think I'll take a nap."

Or, "Saddle? NO No no... I don't want to be trained for that! I've seen what you do to the mare. It isn't fair. She's sleeping. Why do I have to move my feet?"

And, "Want to play tag? I'll jig away and you come after me and pretend to make me run until I'm tired of running and ready to do as you want."

And - "Fly spray? No... I don't care if it doesn't bother the mare! That stuff will KILL ME AND EAT ME!"

Hahahaha! @Change, you are so right on.

I don't do much for entertainment. No cable TV, never go to the cinema, only occasionally go out to dinner, no concerts, so I figure I can throw $50 or less at someone to tell me what they think my horses want to say. I may hear the expected:
Squid: "I want MORE food, why do I have to be on a diet?!"
Cruiser: "Can you make this pony leave me alone? He steals bites from my hay bag."

Or something random and off base, or maybe something that will lead me to investigate and look into something else. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but for a little bit of fun money I think it could be fun.

If the communicator can tell me why Cruiser rips the tail flap off of every darned blanket I put on Squid, plus fly masks, plus tail bags, plus bandages, I would be happy. Better yet, tell him to leave them the heck alone!

A couple of things I remember about reading Horses.
The horses were out in the paddock in spring, very muddy with puddles all over and the older mare was standing on a hill and just looking across the paddock and kind of moving her head back and forth, my daughter said "what is that silly horse doing?" I answered "she wants to get across the paddock and is plotting the driest route" we watched and that was exactly what she was doing and she proceeded to follow the route she picked out. This isn't talking to horses but it is understanding their thought process.

One time I was riding with some friends and one, a very nice kind lady, was riding beside me and mentioned that my horse was communicating with her and telling her that she (my mare) was overweight and worried about it, I suggested that while she was talking to the horse maybe she could tell the mare not to eat so much when she was out on pasture, try to cut back a little. Didn't go over so well. My thought was that this lady could see my mare needed less to eat and somehow thought the horse was communicating this to her.

Another one I remember about communicating with horses.
One day I called the horses in for the night and when the older mare (different Mare) came up, she looked at me and I knew there was something wrong with her, I stopped her at the door and looked her all over but could find nothing obvious and I went over her checking legs, back, neck etc. still nothing, I went up to her head and put my hand up to her face and she jerked away so I knew it had to be the face somehow.
She was a grey mare with a grey muzzle and when I checked the under side of her muzzle she had a fence staple through the bottom of her muzzle, very hard to see as it was the same colour as the skin.
I got hold of it and quickly yanked it out before she had time to realize what was happening.
I could tell from one look something was wrong with her just the way she looked at me, I don't call this conversing with horses but being able to read their expressions.

Think maybe all this animal communication stuff started because people would call horse trainers that were well educated in understanding horses out and the horse trainer would have a hard time talking to the owner without getting an emotional response from the owner?

It's why I like 'give it to me between the eyes' sort of people. People who are not being mean but factual and matter of fact about information they hand out. There's none of this, "but your horse said," stuff.
@Green, if I ever have issues and need some help you're welcome at my place.. lol.. I'd hire ya..

I 100% believe in animal communication. I have heard my gelding before. No one was at the barn, it was dead quiet. I had just made his mash and put it in his stall when I heard a sweet little boy's voice say "thank you!" in my head. And no..I'm not crazy (;
I've also had an animal communicator talk to my mare; she was spot on. Our relationship grew exponentially..I never thought we would be this close. I think she appreciated me taking the time to get someone to help us communicate. A lot of people at my show barn have done it too and they swear by some communicators.
Of course, there are fakes out there who just want money though.

I am lucky in that I know my horse's history from foaling to when I got him, so when an "animal communicator" reading (gift, the BO thought it would be fun if the whole barn got a reading) happened I was skeptical. The AC got a few things right on fellow boarder's horses, but she was way wrong with a few of us also. She said my horse loved riding from when he was first broke as a 3 yo (he was a driving horse until I got him as a 9 yo and he is not a fan of riding) and that he was a successful show horse (he has not been to a single show but did race 124 starts with 16 wins) and he hates baths (he loves his bath and loves playing with the hose/buckets). So unless my horse was being a total joker and feeding false info to the AC (which honestly, I wouldn't put it past him) she totally flubbed it on my horse.

My horse was 34. I had her for 31 years. She had all her teeth, no issues except treated Cushings. On a Sunday during supper feeding she told me she was going away. Not in words I heard but in words my brain heard, hard to explain. I was a mess afterwards.
Monday she wanted to go into a pasture she seldom went into but I put her & her 2 friends in a different pasture. All seemed fine but I knew what I had heard.
Tuesday morning she again went to the back arena door to go in the not used pasture. I relented because she was determined. She grazed happily all day while I watched & cried.
Tuesday evening when I stepped out the door to bring horses in she was sleeping in the pasture, as she often did at that time. She must have heard me call to her & when she was getting up I heard her leg crack. She never got up again. I knew & she knew. While waiting for the vet I held her head in my lap & she was relaxed, ready. I won't go into how I was but I think you all have an idea.

Three months later she came to me in a dream & wanted to know if I was alright, she was happy. Now I don't know if it was only a dream or not but I found comfort in thinking it was really her.

I've had other occasions happen too with other animals but I don't want you guys to think I'm nuttier than I am.

My indoor cat got shut outside over night and in my sleep I heard a little voice saying "help me! help me!" then I woke up to "meow meow meow"! I let her in. Now I don't think that's communicating at all, I simply heard the meow below my window and knew what it meant and that something was wrong and in my sleep it translated that meaning into words to wake me up. I think it's a cute story but doesn't make me a communicator.

I've definitely heard some really "lead on" stories that was really just someone good at reading PEOPLE and what they say and nothing at all about the horse, pretty sick imo to take advantage of someone like that.

BUT I have also heard some really odd stories too that just don't have an explanation. I do think in most circumstances, esp with ones own animals that there is some communication (though not the same thing as a "psychic link") that does have a real explanation even though it's one that is hard to actually understand and explain in "real" words.

I know a lady who is supposedly a communicator (not advertised and has just said things here and there) but I am still skeptical, I trust she's not leading me on intentionally but maybe not all there? Also said some weird stuff but definitely nothing that made me go "wow I'm a believer!" and it's just...weird.

I would do it for fun, very carefully (NO hints whatsoever) for the right price (free?). I would definitely not put too much weight into it unless they blew me away.

We went to a physic once for fun. I had them do a reading on my ex. He sat down and she went to work on him. "You're a deeply religious man," she starts in. He's like, "yeah, how'd you know?" And I'm in the corner laughing. Then she goes, "Your grandfather loved you very much. You two were very close." I'm cracking up.. She continues, "You don't have much in the way of finances but I see a bright future for you. Things will get better." I start to snicker. I can't help myself. She continues, "you're good at math and science." And he's sitting there, eating it all up.

When we leave he's got this astounded look asking, "how did she know all that?" I can't help it, I just real into the poor sap. "You're wearing your chain with your cross, it fell out of your shirt when you leaned over the table. You're wearing your grandpa's Rolex watch that's three generations old. The amount of tarnish on it suggests its not new, you inherited it. It's too old to be your dads. If you take into considerations you're wearing Wal-Mart brand clothes with holes in them it suggests what income bracket you're in. And all she had to do was look at your key chain to pick up what you're doing in school. Now where's my $60.00?" lol

Like others, I'm pretty skeptical, but I do think there are some people who can pick up on animals' thoughts.

The funny thing about my own horses is that the one horse who passes on his thoughts is the stand-offish one who doesn't like to be petted or touched. I often get his thoughts or feelings when I am working with him. My own horses, who are very close to me--nothing, ever, hard as I try. They are open loving affectionate horses, but I never pick up on anything with them.

One morning I was grooming my daughter's cream colored filly and what came into my head was "I hate my color." I told her that cream is a lovely color, but she wished she could be brown. I told her that is so typical of a teenager, not to be satisfied with her looks, even though they are lovely. That's the only communication I ever got from the filly.

Last Thurs, my sister was away and I was doing the evening chores. I usually ride in the am but thought I would ride in the afternnoon then do the feeding.
My horse was really communicating with me and letting me know that this was not proper procedure, we shouldn't be going out to work at this time. She wasn't hungry because I fed her some hay to munch on while I cleaned stalls and other work so that wasn't the problem but she was sure making her opinion known. Just not the usual routine, I just call this understanding my horse.

When I asked her if she wanted the white saddle pad or the blue one, she had no thoughts on the matter.:D

It was gratifying, after spending the night away from home, to have both horses welcome me back. They were definitely telling me that they'd missed me, even though it was obvious they'd been well fed and taken care of for the two feedings I'd missed.

This morning when I fed, I just got the usual: "It's about time!" from them.

Things like this is just being a good horse owner, a good trainer, someone who knows horses and understands them. I wouldn't call it anything psychic though.. lol It's not like you're going to your barn and they're talking to you like Mr. Ed use to do for us when we were kids watching TV.. lol

Horses are fun, they give us 'cues' if we listen. But most animals do. But you're not ever going to hear one of them say, "HEY MOM, WAKE THE HECK UP AND COME FEED ME!" Like a child would.. lol

Last night Sophie was sitting by my bedroom door, waiting for me to open the door and go to bed. Was she tired? No. Was she wanting to play? No. What was she wanting? She was wanting her treats! I keep them on my night stand. How do I know this? Because when I touch the treat container I keep them in she goes bonkers. And I have to get her to sit, wait, and be patient so I can open the thing. lol

Then, she goes to bed.. lol

An animal communicator used a photo to tell me what Sky thought of me, even before he was my horse. I was "leasing" him at the time (read: exercising him without pay) and he was a mess with everyone but me. I was also the least experienced and arrogant as all. It was cry-worthy, and I'm not one to cry easily unless I watch 300 apparently.

I will say this...

I've never been skeptical. I've always been, "No, nana, not going to happen, these people are nuts." A friend of mine uses one and I've always thought my friend to be a little "off." I find entertainment in it, and I thoroughly enjoy hearing my friend's stories about what her animals are trying to tell her. But at the end of the day I've always thought it was bologna.

BUT- on Friday I spent 4+ hours at the vet with my mare....and I'd really like to know what, if anything, my mare has to say. :)
