Well folks, cross yer fingers. My mare looks like she is going to foal here soon, my trainer thinks within the next 48 hours. Her vulva is swollen/elongated, her tail is quite lax and you can see periodic waves (accompanied by heartfelt grunting by the mare). She hasn't bagged up much, but with her ladybits being so elongated we think it'll be soon.

So much for thinking it would be "soon". Mare foaled last night (wind chills -15) Lord love my trainer who has sat foal watch for the past 4 nights.

It's a solid filly rather surprising about the color but she is healthy and that's all that matters!

Wowee-wow! Very pretty foal and looks to be pretty good size

I see a big dinner at the restaurant of your trainer's choice, for getting the baby dried off and blanketed in what was no doubt record time given your miserable rotten weather

The mare is 15.3 so yeah it's a big filly. Good idea, I was also thinking of a gift card for a "spa day" so she can pamper herself

Congrats on the filly!

We've been enjoying a break in the weather. Until today. Pretty sure the hay I put out will keep the horses warm since they'll have to chase it to eat any. Very, very windy.

My horse got something in his eye and scratched the cornea during our last windy, wintry spell. I've been doctoring that and it's healing well.

Had to sew a patch on a fly mask to reduce the amount of light on that side since I've been giving him Atropine to get the iris to dilate normally. It's been interesting to see the other horses' reactions. Very intolerant of him being "different." He is now buddied up to a horse who lost an eye to cancer.
