Every guy I've dated has thought "horse girls" to be, well, a bit mad really. Some horse people I've met, while I think they are perfectly fine and everything, I can see how others would think they're a bit crazy. It's not just about horses though. Like a lot of horse people can be a bit intense about things. I certainly am.
Growing with other kids and stuff at pony club, and even after, there seemed to me to be a few types of horse people. Like there were the weekend riders and such who were pretty laid back and just did it all for fun. But then there were the real horsey kids (as I was) and we were all high achievers, focused, determined, kind of grown up in a weird way.
Then an aspect that I've noticed also with a lot of horse people, and in myself as well, is they're hard, harsh, strong. I think its something that some people develop, day in and out doing horse stuff, trudging through muddy paddocks fighting this crazy huge animal, learning to be the leader, the dirt, the rain, the cold, the heat, the constant disappointment and hard work, if you want to get it done you do it yourself. A lot of people get harder, less kind, less understanding.
I love being a horse person, and growing up with them a bit has certainly shaped who I am but it's not all good stuff. Lots of the outside world thinks horse people are crazy and strange, spend way too much money on silly animals, are too rough and/or rich. I don't think many people respond well to "horse people".
