How could you not know who Ruffian & Man O' War are?

So I am eating dinner with my friend and we start talking about racehorses. She is going on and on about Zenyatta. I ask her if she knows about Ruffian. She said no. I am thinking "I am think yeah Zenyatta is awesome, but you don't know who Ruffian is???" I tell her she is one of the greatest racehorses of all time! Then she butts in with "I got to meet Zenyatta" in a rather rude tone(I already knew that, seen the pictures, but she didn't need to repeat in the rude tone).Then I start talking about Man O' War and Eclipse, then she starts about Secretariat, then I tell her, that Man O' War Eclipse were way before him and possibly greater than him.I also started talking about the stallions that helped create Thoroughbreds.. Then she pretty much tunes me out. I guess my knowledge isn't as important :/ Its like when I tried to tell her about "Teacup" Yorkies, because she wants one, she just didn't want to. I have friends who aren't into dogs and horses like me.

I love horse racing. I was talking about horse racing with her and her mom at another time, but they kept talking to me as if I didn't know anything about horse racing.They also kept insisting that Zenyatta's foal will be amazing just like here, and that he/she will have Secretariat in him/her, that will also make the foal great. Like repeating things, and I gave them the "I-already-know-this" look. I don't really say anything back, because they are the kind of people who think they know alot when they don't. No I am not trying to say Zenyatta isn't amazing she is, and Secretariat was also a great horse.

I guess this was more of a rant than I don't know.lol. I heard that the trainer of Secretariat said that Ruffian is even better than Secretariat. Not trying to shoot down his greatness(I heard he wasn't that good when it came to producing foals, as in many didn't turn into champions like him. Don't know about that, I heard that from people who were in the horse breeding world).

But anywho, feel much better.lol. I love my friend, but sometimes she gets on my nerves, so do my other friends.lol. I bet I annoy them with my horse and dog talk.lol!

Ok - does your friend's opinion or lack of knowledge about particular race horses impact you in any way? Nope.
So does it matter? Nope.

Do you know who Donnerhall, Rubenstein, Weltmeyer are/were?
Do you know who Parzival, Salinero, Bonfire, Velegro, Uthopia are?

I think you just need to accept that your friend may not care about those particular race horses.

I love horse racing and love learning about all the. I just named those few horses to her to show her that Zenyatta isn't the only great racehorse out there and that there are many.

I do accept the fact that she may not care about those other horses but she had no right to talk to me like I was stupid, tune out on my while I am talking(because that is just plain rude, I never do that to her.) I don't care if she doesn't care, but I don't like being talked down to and tuned out. Its called being respectful when someone is talking to you.

Oh well, such is life. Not everyone is going to agree with everything you say, one of those things you just have to learn to deal with.

Yes, I know that and don't expect people too. But it never hurts to disagree respectfully.

I think you will find that most people can't really carry on a conversation about dead race horses, especially when they don't even know who they are. What are they supposed to say about it? It's kinda like telling people about your dreams....they can't really contribute to the conversation.

You sound as though you really love racing and follow it closely. So why not engage your friend in a conversation about current race horses. Maybe that way you will actually have a conversation and not a situation where each of you are talking about two different things.

I have, like I have talked about Smarty Jones, Curlin, Rags to Riches, but obviously she doesn't care unless its Zenyatta. I love all racehorses and like to talk about them all, so I bring in all kinds.Well when I brought up the Rags to Riches race she seemed interested.lol I guess I am more into than she is. :/

I could talk about D or R-line dressage horses all day, and have friends who prefer W lines and would rather talk that all day. No biggie, it's just conversation topic. Find something else to talk about if it bothers you that much

I could talk about connemara breeding, show pony stallions and welsh lines all day.
Do you know who Derwen Railway express is? Or Nebo Black magic? Ben Lettery? Castle comet? Templebready Fear Bui? Archwood gigolo? Klivingston scoundrel?

I havent the faintest clue who Ruffian, Man O' War, Secretariat or Zenyatta are. Infact the only Race horses I can name off the top of my head are Desert orchid and Red Rum
And quite frankly I couldnt give a damn who they are, it just doesnt interest me.

I really don't think you guys are getting the point. Its mostly the way she said the things to me. The way she said them to me was rather condescending.

Since she watched horse racing I assumed she was into it like me, so I started talking about it more.
