How did you find your current horse?

How did you find your current horse(s)? And when did you realize that you had to buy him/her?

I was randomly searching all the "Horse for sale" websites, and I typed in my zipcode and 50 miles away on I saw a pretty dun and black mare that was for sale about 30 miles away. I went to the website that they gave in the description and I looked at all the horses for sale. I liked the mare the best so I had my mother call them (I hate calling people unless I know them haha) and we played phone tag for a while. Finally we e-mailed them and asked about the mare (named Holly) and also asked about all the other horses for sale. She e-mailed me back with a list of 4 horses. One was the dun mare that I was really interested in, another was a grey draft mare, another one was a grey QH gelding, and the other was a bay paint gelding.
She attached pictures of all, and I fell in love with the two mares...the draft was above my price range so we decided not even to look at her in case I fell in love with her.
So we arranged a day when we could go up and see the three horses, even though I was really only interested in Holly.
When we arrived, we say Holly and the paint tied up in opposite corners. The paint was the closest so my mom and I went up and said hi to it and started to pet him. Then the lady who was going to show the horses to us came out and introduced us to the horse we were petting. She then saddled him up and put him through his paces and so on.
When she was done, she asked if I wanted to ride him, so I said sure due to he looked like somethingI could handle even though I wasn't really interested in him.
The minute I walked him around I fell in love with him. Even though he didn't know me, he listed perfectly and didn't act up at all.

A week later I did a lesson on him to see if he truely was the horse I wanted...and then another week after that we went and got the pre-purchase exam on him. He passed with flying colors. Then the following week we went over again, gave them the cashiers check for his ammount. Then the following day he was delivered to my barn.

My friend knows a breeder, she's very close with him. His horses are just beautiful. I went to look at some of the horses he had for sale, they were so pretty! I knew my friend recommended someone good.
I've always wanted a when I saw that he had one for sale, I just fell in love with her from the start!
She was green though, so it took awhile for me to trust her, & vice-versa. But there was something special about her!
When I started getting her trained & all, she was so willing...just, amazing!
Now, she is great. But, only I can ride her well...she acts like a totally different horse with other people, & they don't really like riding her. :( LOL but that's fine with me, hehe!

Ride more, worry less.

I found him on and I stared at his pic for about 2 weeks, and finally decided to get him and it was the best decision I ever made. I drove 3 hours to another state to find him in horrible condition, unlike his pics on the ad. I took him home immediately. and have been in love since :)

He happened to be on consinment at the barn I rode at. My instructor made me ride him, and I instantly fell in love. He was a huge handful, because he hadn't been riden in over 2 years, but I could tell he had potential. I leased him first, and about half way through the summer he started really acting up and he wasn't progessing at all. I became really afraid of him and wouldn't ride him. I got over that fear, and we started making progress again. My parents bought him for me for my 15th birthday. I've had him for three years now and I'd trust him with my life. He's come so far and I'm so glad I didn't give up on him!!
Sounds like you got a great deal. I remember searching on dreamhorse for years before I finally convinced my parents to consider buying me a horse!

Haha. Well.......

I was looking for another horse because i had recently sold my previous one. Was going for my second test ride on him. He bucked me off and i fractured my wrist , got a migrane at the same time  , The owner said ' do you not want him now ', lol and i said ' yea , i still want him ' :P And i still have him 6 years and a bit now.

O and also for Foxy. He was just in a paddock and i really wanted to ride him. Turned out he belonged to a friend of my brother, so got him to ask if i could ride him. They said yes, he wasnt even being used anyway. So eventually they gave him to me for free 8)
Had him bout 3 or so years now.

We got our boys at the same time. Some friends of ours owned them and when their father died ( the horse man of the family ) they quit riding. We traded them a Ford truck them. The horses hadn't been ridden since Don's funeral. It was almost a year to the day that we got the horses. I loved Don dearly it is so great that we ended up with his personal horse (Dumas) and Twister. We've had them for 7 months now.

Nani- We were looking for a horse that my mother could ride and we saw a really solid 14.2 paint for sale and went to go check her out. She was absolutely beautiful, but a little too fast so we passed. Since we were already there we looked a a few more horse the owner had for sale. Finally after warning us that she has terrible ground manners they showed us Nani, who was basically perfect. She was a tb bred for hunters in Upperville and was doing 2nd level dressage. We vetted her, but she didn't pass. Weeks later and many more searches the owner offered to lower the price and we got her rechecked and x-rayed, which she did passed. We bought her and since her ground manners have gotten better and she has been fabulous.

Herbi- Boring story, after my 2nd year of high school I was starting to outgrow my pony and we donated her to a nearby school. We searched on dreamhorse and found three horses which we looked at. One was a gorgeous 15.2 hh canadian warmblood that couldn't comfortably make the stride, the second was a very pretty 16.2 hh tb that had been doing dressage and was just learning to jump, he would have been a nice 3'6" eq/hunter prospect, but he was too big, and Herbi, who me and my trainer both loved. He also didn't completely pass the vetting he has an old racing injury and didn't pass the flex test, but he was passed with a 90% so we took the chance and a price cut. I'm glad we did, the leg is completely fine.

I've found all my horses on dreamhorse.

Saw some small text about her on the internet.
E-mailed the owner
She really had to get rid of her, she was moving to spain.
I wisited Dásemd to the field she was in.
Then I had never seen her, not even on a pic!!!
the owner just discriped her for me
There were like 100 horses in this field.
Over 20 that were grey
Haha I walked that field from one end to another.
I found my girl
she was not broken, she was a total wilde horse that had lived a good live in a field.
But I could walk up to her, pet her, give bread, hug her and kiss her
and she was and still is sooo beauitful, and then I watched her a little in the field, and she was just soo funny and goofy and I just had to get her.

Okay this is a long one, I have so many horses.

Kita-I was at a horse sale just looking. I sat down beside this guy and he asked if I would be interested in working some foals. I found out that he lived half hour from me. So I said yes. He wanted me to halter break, teach to load/unload and play with the feet for three fillies that had never been handled. My payment would be a 2 yr old grey mare. So That is how I got Kita.

Tana-My old boss/friend was in town on a buisness trip. He called and asked if I wanted to meet him for a few beers. So we got to talking and he said "Tiff, I got this super nice all black filly you might be interested in." I wasn't really sold cause I don't like to buy for color. Anyways I couldnt' make it down to his house to check the mare out so I called my sis to do it. I trust her completely. Anyways do the price was right, my sisters work was good so I bought her sight unseen.

North-I was at a horse sale with a friend of mine who was selling a horse. My friend asked me if I'd go back and saddle her horse. So one may way back their the alley was blocked to I jumped thru some pens to get to her horse. North was in one of the meat pens and when I jumped in the pen she turned into me really fast and put her head in my chest and let me hug her. I knew at that moment she was coming home with me.

Dillon-I was at a rescue with my friend buying a horse for herself. I was walking in the weanling pen and he just would not stop following me. I guess he choose me.

Que-Found her online. When we went one to look at her my son who is not even 2 was able to lead her around. I guess she was sold then.

Sorry for the novel guys
