How did you get your first horse?

Tell your favorite story of how you got your first horse!

Heres mine:

I got my first horse from a woman who's daughter had horses and I didn't think I was going to get one of the horses but I decided to humor myself and cheak her out.
When I got there it was pouring down rain and I was lucky she had and indoor arena. The woman had two horses to sell. One was a red roan mare about 6 or 7 years old named Pheonix. The other was a bay solid Paint mare named Belle with a wicked mark on her face and she was 3.
The woman saddled up Pheonix and didn't say much about Belle becuase she figured a 3 year old filly wasn't what I wanted and she thought I should have Pheonix.
I rode Pheonix for a while and she was a nice horse but it wasn't...right.
I kept looking at Belle and I asked if I could ride her. So the women nodded and took her out. I remember the sun that shown on her red bay coat made her look like a brand new copper penny.
I got up on her back and rode around for a while and as soon as I cued her to lope, she went real fast and I just knew this was the horse for me.
I bought Belle shortly after I tried her. It was so cute, when I had to decide if I wanted her or not she kept licking my arm as if to say, "Buy me! Buy me!"
Her name is Cowboys Plain Janie but her last owner called her Belle so I just call her Janie Belle!

My first horse was a pair of horses that came in a package when I was 10. There was a bay morgan gelding named henry, and a tobiano paint named cochise. We were unsure of their ages, and they were horribly behaved in general. They liked to take off with us on their backs, roll while we were riding, prance all the way home on a trail ride, and cochise would bite or kick you if you weren't careful. My parents did not have a horse trailer at the time, and so they rode them the several mile trip to our house - soon after, they escaped and and went back home requiring the trip to be repeated. We did 4H with them (my two sisters and I), which was always entertaining (Henry laying down to roll in the middle of a class).

They may have been butt head horses (having spend most of their lives as someone's pack/trail horse, but we became strong, confident, brave riders because of them. After cochise (my main horse), my parents bought me an 8 year old red roan Arab/QH named Sham - he was as good as gold :)

Many years and several horses later, I am back to loving paints with my 5 year old APHA stallion who has the great paint color of my first horse and the loving heart of my second horse.

Barn sour, I am curious?? Janie Belle is the horse that Horse Luver said was her horse...she is only 3 years old, and from your prior posts you sound very experienced and to have other horses....she isn't your first horse is she??

Eh...well, the first pony my PARENTS bought was a welsh/morgan on my instructor's approval. I loved him to death until his intelligence and greed got the best of him and he colicked himself on a garbage bin full of sweet feed...to this day, I've never cried harder in my life than when that pony died.

The first horse I bought MYSELF was an in-vitro colt this year...quite exciting for me, since I've been working and riding other peoples' horses since my parents sold mine when I left for college (I'm the only rider in my family).

Aww my first horse, Cody.... :)
LOL!
Well, my best friend knew a breeder & he was also a horse trainer.
So, I went to check it out...the breeder had 7 horses that were for sale, but they weren't foals or anything. :( haha, sadly.
He had 7 QH geldings, 3 were bays, 2 were palominos, & the other 2 were blacks.
But yeah, I fell in love with one of the bays...he was a really beautiful bay gelding. I just knew he was for me. He was about 16 at the time.
Yeah, I know. A bit older...but hey, he had a lot of pep in him. Trained, too...so he sure
I took him for a ride...soo smooth at the trot, & his canter was like, heaven!! I knew I had to get him.
He wasn't spooky or skittish...he was a real timid boy.
He was very hyper though, once in the arena. LOL! Later on I sold him to my best friend. I always go & visit him! & once in awhile I ride him on the trails; he's mostly a trail horse now. ;)
That's the story...not very interesting, but oh well. LOL!

MY first REAL horse that was REALLY MINE - - - - is and was Blu. I don't want to tell the whole, long story so:

He was abused really bad. I called a horse trader about a horse I saw in an add and asked her about her horses. She recommended Blu and after a while....I took him as my own!

WHATS REALITY?
