How to make more horse friends in two steps

A lot of people want to know how to make more horse friends. This system works as is if you own your own horse but can be modified.

Here's the system in two steps:

Step 1: buy a towing vehicle
Step 2: buy a two horse or larger trailer

The invitations to things will roll in as people without rigs will want to trailer pool to places using your rig.

Every weekend someone wants me to trailer someplace. I feel bad because I always decline (in the middle of racing season and renfest season right now and I find forced socialization to be uncomfortable) but the invites always roll in.

Do you find yourself making up excuses, or are you good at saying no?
I find it so uncomfortable to be asked to do something I don't want to do.

"I'm sorry, no.", is a complete sentence. No explanation necessary!

Oh, by the way, what do you say we trailer over to Taylor Mt. For some awesome fall trail riding?

It's incredibly uncomfortable, especially when I never expressed being open to going places with anyone, LOL! I don't know most of the people at the farm very well - I get paid to ride/train very occasionally, and very very rarely we ride together but that's it. It's really awkward to sit in a vehicle with someone you don't know and try to come up with small talk.

Right now I'm lucky in that I don't have to make up something. I'm working at the racetrack almost every weekend and when I'm not, my husband and I go to the rennaissance festivals in the area. Otherwise, I would probably have to make up some excuse then avoid the farm that day or just to at an awkward time.

Don't get me wrong - they're nice people. The situation is just not one I'm keen on!

I just offer my trailer...without my truck. If they can find a truck to pull it, have at it lol!

Years ago, when I first bought a stock trailer & joined the local riding club, I had everyone & their brother asking me if I could haul their horse to this event or that one, sometimes I would give their horse a ride if I had an open spot & it wasn't out of my way. I always told them it wasn't a free ride, they had to pay for gas, back then it was $20, most seemed perturbed, so I would tell them to find another ride then. I guess I got to be known as the person who will haul your horse, but she makes you pay for ALL the gas, I don't get asked much now as a tank of diesel in my truck is $90, lol.

When we bought our trailer, my husband and I were boarding at a farm with a LOT of boarders and we saw this all the time. For that very reason, we bought a two horse trailer. Since we usually ride together all the time, that solved the whole problem. Now that we aren't there anymore it's not really an issue. There are times that I can't ride (like now, since I'm horsehunting!) and my husband will offer a ride to a friend if they're going someplace together at a distance. Why pull 2 trailers with one horse in each???

Really, it's the friends you HAVE...not the ones you want to make!
