Mmmm let's check out how much it is for Henny.
Board: $85 a month - $1020 a year
Farrier: $100 a month (his feet are in very bad condition and almost foundered so an orthopedic farrier is now handling his feet) - $1200 a year
Feed: $45 a month - $540 a year
Acupuncture: $100 a month - $1200 a year
Hay: $30 a month - $360 a year
Shots & Coggins: $140 a year
Shavings: $45 a month - $540 a year
That is pretty much all the basic stuff set in stone that Henny is dealing with right now. In November, he was kicked in the head and almost died of brain damage/swelling. He stayed at the vet for 4 days and racked up a $700 vet bill. And I thought that was CHEAP, thinking it was going to be at least a grand. Then in January, he was due for shots, gelding, radiographs of said feet, and orthopedic trimming. He ended up staying overnight as well as he liked to bleed too much from his gelding surgery. That was another 7-800 dollars. So in the span of 3 months, I spent $1400 just at the vet's office. I had to sell my other horse and pull money out of my savings account to afford all of this.
