How much to feed a horse?

Ok, the horse is a thouroughbred 16.5 hh. He is on 8 acres of land with 3 other horses. He is a pet horse that we ride for fun and he does nothing strenuous. What would you reccommend would be enough for him? If I have left out any info please ask.

For non-working horses, I would recommend a half of a coffee can twice a day of sweet feed, oats, etc. etc.

I give my horse a half a cofee can but he is work 2 times a weeks and he is half your horses size! so I would say 3/4 a can of grain should work?

Is there much feed in the paddock? If he has plenty of good grass you may not need to feed him at all considering he isnt doing much work. If he needs a little pick up you could either give him hay or some pellets and rice bran. It all depends on available food and whether or not he is in need of putting weight on

Yearling
It depends on several different things...

- Is he an easy keeper?
- What type of feed are you giving him?
- Whats available to him in the pasture?
- Is he currently at a good weight?
- How old is he?
