How to stretch ankle area of new half chaps?

I purchased new black suede Ariat (All Around III) half chaps. They are really nice but I can't zip them all the way down around my paddock boots. My boots are the Ariat Bossard Winter and are wider than summer boots.

The chaps fit perfectly all down my legs but does not wrap around the boot well enough to zip it down. On my left leg there is about a 1 inch gap and on my right there is about 4 inches.

How can I stretch them out to fit around my boots? Any suggestions would be great!

PS: I have an old pair of Ariat "Endurance" chaps that fit like a second skin, but are too worn to wear anymore.
