I am sooooo excited! Getting first horse!!!

I will probably be getting my first horse in the spring! Someone offered to give me their mare as they are not able to keep her for various reasons. She's 19 but in excellent shape. The person that is giving her said that they think she has maybe 10 more years of riding and is really fun and safe to ride. She's a buckskin (which is one of my favorite colors) and just sounds wonderful.

I'll have all winter to get things ready for her, which will be perfect and I'm almost for sure getting her! I'm so excited! If anyone has any tips for me on some extra things I should get ready for her I'd love to hear them. I want to take the best care of her possible. I'll be sure to post lots of pics when I get her - and will need advice on caring for her I'm sure, as she isn't a really young horse anymore.

How exciting for you!! Have you rode her yet?

A few things I would suggest is getting a PPE from the vet. And going out and testing her yourself.

Yes it is really exciting! I haven't rode her yet as they live quite far away but I hope to real soon! Thats a good idea to get a checkup from a vet. Then I'll know she's real healthy. Thanks for the advice!

find yourself a vet, a ferrier ( they need to have their feet trimmed every 6 weeks or so) find out what it eats, how much, supplments etc, previous medical problems, look up joint supplments, she will probubly need them, get 3-5 buckets, ( 1 for feed, 1 or 2 for water, 1 for wash, 1 for outside water) get a good first aid kit, all that fun stuff.
