I can't find my horse a home :(

So I am at this barn now and the barn owner doesn't want to keep one of my horses where the barn owner thinks it will all be to much for the winter :( the owner of the barn said they could def keep my two horses there for the winter and then told me only last month that they couldn't take them both . Now I am stuck finding a stall for one where they said the other could stay and my horse that can stay is chewing wood really bad so she might kick her out too if she doesn't slow down on chewing wood . I live in a place that doesn't have many barns at all and if they do all of them are full :( now I 'am extremely worried I might have to sell one or the both of them which I really do not want to do . They have both taught me so much and it would kill me to have to sell them both, and it would be very sad to sell them both . Also I have had no luck with horses this year my old barn shut down, my horse almost lost her eye and my other horse lost a lot of weight and is now just starting to put it back on, my other is cribbing really bad and the other has ulcers ....... sorry for the rant

Before you freak out about selling them, hunt down some barns.. even private paddocks.

What area do you live in? Maybe the forum can help.

There is always an underground of private board, usually with much better environments for your horses and much cheaper, due to less ammenities for you. Sacrificing a tad on what exactly you may want will often reduce their environmental stress-induced symptoms (ulcers, cribbing, etc).

Talk to the local vets. They know everyone in the area! Who to stay away from, included.

There is a lot more places that what is "advertised". Put up a notice at your local feed or tack store saying "paddock wanted for two horses" or something. There are often facebook groups for regions where if you ask people will offer agistment. You might not get the facilities you want but you'll find somewhere.

I know exactly how you feel, I was told a few weeks ago that the yard my horse is at now will be moving. It is too far for me to move him with them so I had to find him a new place. It was stressful and I had to look at a few places before I was happy enough with it to move my horse there, but eventually I found a place. It's a little further from home than I would've hoped, but it's still doable and I know my horse will be happy there. I guess my point it that you should not freak out just yet (even though I know I did!). :) Stay calm, ask around at tack shops, vets, farriers and even other yards (most horse owners know of at least a few yards in the area from going to their shows and such).

Good luck, I am sure things will work out!
