I found my stall door un-locked!!

Today I went to feed my horses for the night time feeding and found my stall gate un-locked!!! Thank fully the gate was shut in a way that my horse would have had to push really hard to get it open but that doesn't change the fact that she could have if she wanted to!!! I was so mad. I changed the lock combo so hopefully whoever had unlocked it won't be able too now. Only one other person could have known the lock combo before and he goes down there quite frequently to visit them.

And if anybody ask "did you ever consider it might have been yourself?" well here is the thing. I know it wasn't me cause unfortunately I haven't let my horses out in a while cause I have been sick for the past week. So that your question answered.

No but i'm going to be calling my student who comes to take lessons and asking him if he opened it and forgot to close it.

So your horse has been locked in a stall for a week? There are locks on the stalls? What happens if there's an emergency where the horse needs to get out? Does someone go in and clean when you're not there all week?

There is a care taker down there that goes around each day and makes sure that all the horses are doing ok. If they feel that something is wrong that we haven't seen when we went down in the morning then she gives us a call.

How are the stalls picked if they are locked? Does the horse just stand in filth for a week, with no turnout and no relief from the ammonia fumes? And what if there was a barn fire or natural disaster that necessitated removing the horses from the stalls? Would they just have to burn to death?

Do your horse a favor and find a safer, cleaner, and more natural way of keeping him, anyway. From what you've posted and your reaction, sounds like he's currently in a neglectful situation.

And wait...you're 13 years old, yet you have a student?
