I found a place where I could work off board!

I was so excited. I do not own a horse yet, but mom said maybe in the spring- if I get a job. Well, I now work at Dunkin Doughnuts, and I found a place where I can do barn chores a few times a week to work off board! It's awesome right?

Mom said no T_T. She said she doesn't want me to have a horse. I'm about to die here. And she won't explain why she won't let me have one either.

There may be lots of reasons why your mom is against you having a horse at the moment. Don't push her too hard or you may turn her against the idea totally and forever. Can you still work at the boarding stable, maybe in trade for some time in the saddle on a loaner or maybe some lessons? If you show your commitment maybe in time your mom will change her mind.

Keep your head up.. things will work out :) My best advice would be talking to the owner of the barn about your situation - maybe you could work something out where you could work in exchange for lessons, or part-lease, something like that? In the mean time, save up your money to show your mom how serious you are about this... instead of getting new clothes, save it up, and in a while you'll have enough to maybe look at buying your own horse :)

Oh I do have around $2000 saved up. It was going to be for a car, but my grandpa gave me his 98 ford pickup, and I am in total love with it, haha. And I do have a job. I think she's just doing it because she'd have to drive me the next six months before I get my liscence in August.

Hey! Out of curiosity, what barn is it that you will be working at?
Years ago, I worked at a stable in Northern NJ to work off board for my horse too.

(we've moved to MD since then, but we were in West Milford NJ at the time)
