I guess my search for a horse is over :(

Well...I reposted my lil wanted ad this morning. This the only way I get responses. And someone flagged it within tge hour and a nasty reply reply ad appeared:
" I also responded to this ad wich has been up for weeks...
Her ad should say she is looking for a free arabian."
It made me wanna scream. Did it ever occur to them I can't afford the $3600 show horse they have for sale? That maybe I only have $1200 to spend?Or that I don't want a yearling? Or that I don't want a 22 year old gelding? Or a horse they've had for two weeks? I specified in my ad what um looking for.
But I guess if it pissed people off that much I should just give up:(

Instead of posting a 'Wanted' ad, why don't you peruse the horse for sale ads?

Did you post on Craigslist? That's your first mistake, if you did. The only good thing I've ever gotten off CL was finding my hay guy.

YES. I search every day!!!! And I delete my old ad. I don't repost every day tho.
And so far, I found my truck, my goat and dog on craigslist.
I've also gotten rid of a whole litter of puppies, and rehomed surplus chickens.
I'm discouraged.

I have to disagree with Speed Racer. I happened to get my horse from a craigslist ad and he's proven to be a great boy. I will say that you have to be very careful and thorough and make sure you don't get "had." If you look hard and long enough, I'm sure you'll get what you're looking for. It took me at least 5 months before I found my Dancer. Good Luck.

Are you looking at ads only on CL or are your searching other horse for sale sites?

Puddin, I'm sure a lot of folks have found nice horses on CL. The problem is weeding through all the crazies, liars, and horse traders. I don't have the patience.

Poultry, the problem you're encountering is that it appears you want someone else to do the legwork for you. Posting a 'wanted' ad tells people that you're not making a real effort to do any searching yourself. You want them to come to you.

If you're serious about finding a horse for yourself, you have to do more than just post a 'wanted' ad on CL.

I drove a lot of miles and spent a lot of time meeting and riding different horses before I found JJ. I'm the one who made the effort to contact people, not the other way around.

If you're truly looking, you'll do the same.

I had to have a really hard laugh when I read this, because I HAVE been searching, I have been calling about the ads I find, I've driven 2 1/2 hours each way just ot go look at horses. I even got so close to bringing one home I had my family come down and haul the trailer all the way there only to have the intended purchase flip out and drive away empty trailered.
I want them to come to me, but I COME TO THEM most of the time. I swear I've inquired about over 30 horses at this point. I've test ridden a few, looked at in person, said thanks but no thanks to many, etc. Im not just sitting back going "oh well." The assumption that I'm not THE ONE who makes the effort to see them is pure falicy.

Try looking on dreamhorse.com or equine.com or one of the other horse sale pages.

You can search by region, type of horse, sex, age, height, tempermant, and price. You can even save the search to make it easier to re-do.

What is your experience level? What are you looking for in a horse?

Then I am not sure why you are letting one ad issue make you give up.

Sometimes it takes a very long time to find the right horse. Isn't the right horse worth all the hassle they take to find?

By posting a 'horse wanted' ad, people will perceive that you want them to throw horses at you without you making any effort.

Whether or not it's actually true is immaterial. Perception is reality, you know. Especially for the folks on CL. Remember what I said about crazies? CL is full of 'em.

So if you've done all this running about, why are you letting one deletion of an ad discourage you?

The right horse is out there, but rarely will they fall into your lap.

Keep plugging away, and stop posting 'wanted' ads on CL. It obviously upsets the unwashed masses that troll there.
