    Hidalgo,
If you have onliy been riding horses that are frequently being ridden by other people then you have both benefitted from their experience on the horse (if they have more experience than you) and have suffered from the incompetence of the other riders training of your mount. Being the sole or nearly sole rider of a horse means that the only training going into it will be yours, for better or for worse. So, for example, in my case, I rode one horse that I wanted to walk when I told it to, and canter when I told it too, but the other person let the hrose make these decisions when she rode. So, every time I got on I had to retrain the horse to meet my requirements and it slows down the progress if their are distinct issues to be worked on and you differ greatly from the other person in your approach.

That's my thought exactly! Why not have the best of both worlds? :) Ride and gain experience by showing X Factor while taking the occasional lesson on Lollipop and riding her on the side and working on fun stuff with her.

When I bought my horse, suddenly I was riding only one horse all the time. I quickly missed being able to ride different school horses. Once I realized how much riding different horses makes you a better rider, I started switching it up and riding school horses in my lessons and switching it between them and my horse. It didn't cost any more because I still only took one lesson a week. It was one of the best things I did for my riding.

This is what I'm going to try to do. (Thanks a lot guys for answers btw) I want exactly that, but I'm going to have to talk to V and my trainer together and try an work this out. I'll give news of it all tomorrow after my lesson. Cross your fingers for me! I just need to find a moment to say all this to my trainer before the lesson...

I don't think I'd have that problem very often. Besides V (who's a very good rider), hardly anyone else rides Lollipop. A little girl used to and she handled her relatively well when their were no explosions on Lollipop's part ;), but she now rides another horse that's bigger, but easier to handle... and so Lolli is riderless accept for me and V.
