I rode my horse!

Okay...not so exciting for most but exciting for me! I bought Rosie a week and a half ago, and she pretty much hadn't been caught or ridden for 9 months. I rode her before I purchased her, but it was in a pretty safe setting and with people around, and she was so unrefined with every aid.

About a year ago I really lost my confidence with horses... thought I would never ride again, but then I started lessons again and bought Rosie, who is perfect. My last two horses didn't work out at all, and I didn't really get to ride them, too many problems.

I've spent the last week doing a lot of ground work, getting her ground manners up to scratch, getting her used to the saddle again, refining her rein cues and finally I got on today. She's out of condition so I literally rode her for about five minutes, just walking, halting and turning but she was wonderful! So much better than my first ride, just a short week of work already has really noticeable results in her responses.

I was so nervous to just jump alone but I did, and I am just going to ride for a short time everyday until I get more used to her. Just thought I would share my happiness :)

Anyone else achieve something, no matter how small, this week?

I know the feeling! I got my horse for Christmas, and the first ride felt like such an accomplishment! Such a great feeling! Best of luck to you both and have fun!!!

I love this! Congrats on a great ride...keep up the great work. I lost my confidence too, and spent 10 minutes on my first ride. Now we're up to 90 minutes and it just gets better every time. I too am reconditioning an out of work horse. Just remember, usually after a really good day, there's a rough one, then it improves again. Don't get discouraged by those days.
