I've had two horses since I was four (I'm now fifteen). One was a calm, pretty little palomino mix-breed gelding that I ADORED. He was the best babysitter I could have asked for, and took me on many adventure as I got older ;).
The other horse is a 16.1 hand ex-heeler that is way too high-strung for my taste, but my mother thinks he's beautiful, so he's stayed, even though he's litteraly done nothing but sit around and eat for the past six years.
Well, last year the palomino passed away. :/ As I've said, I don't really like the other horse, so after I was ready I got a new mare that I LOVE:) She's perfect for me.
Now the problem is that the other horse is still just standing around, doing nothing. And my mother is always "too tired" after work to feed/groom, so I'M the one taking care of a horse I DON'T LIKE just because my mother won't. Every time I bring up selling him, she insists that she's going to ride him one of these day, and take care of him.
I know my mom. She likes the theory of riding and caring for him, but she will never do it.
I've explained why he should be sold so many times, or proposed that she start riding, and every time, she says no to selling him, & promises to care for him, but she never does. But seeing as I'm fifteen, I can't do much about it except nag about the fact that I'm taking care of an annoying, bratty horse because my mom is too lazy.
Ughh. It's SO frustrating.
If you have questions about the details, just ask, I'm sure I left something out.. but ANY advice to help me get my mother to sell him would be awesome.
