I need to clarify something...I am a high school teacher! I am not her riding instructor. Sorry, forgot there was an overlap here. She and I always talk horses at lunch, so I'm sure she just thought this was part of that conversation. I have known her family for quite some time (small town and we all grew up here) so honestly I'm not surprised. I originally knew her family in the dog world and they were very decietful breeders in that venue. The grandma was excused as a 4-H leader for her behavior so ethics are not necessarily a family value.

I like the 80% responsibility number. It still puts some responsibility on the buyer, but not an equal amount.

I'm sorry for not being clear about my relationship with the student. You all thought riding student, I was thinking classroom student.

As her teacher did you point out the ethics issues of what she did?

It caught me by surprise and it was as she was walking out the door so I didn't have the chance. Besides, ethics are becoming a moral issue, and we're discouraged from discussing morals now days. Someone might get offended. The opportunity will come up and while I won't discuss this specific event, I'll have a chance. All I can do is plant a seed and see if it grows in the weeds her parents have nourished.

I understand the restrictions teaching in a public school has but please find a way to incorporate something having to do with this into a class some how. It is sad that this poor girl is growing up thinking that what she is doing is the right way.

Fingers crossed that the seed you plant will grow strong and tall amongst all the weeds her family has planted.
