An ice storm, a surprise Shire colt, and a trail ride (pictures!)

Hello all! Hope everyone is staying warm and safe if you're in an area that got any of the wintery weather we have experienced here in North Texas.

My good friend's Shire mare surprised us all by having her foal in the middle of the ice storm! Nobody knew the colt was coming due to a handful of factors.. I'll leave it up to my friend (Southern Grace here on HF) to tell the whole story since I'm sure she'll want to write up a post when she can. All I will say is that she knew the mare was pregnant, but the expected due date was WAY off. I'm happy to report that both momma and baby are happy and healthy.

Andddd I do have some pictures that I'm happy to share!

In other news, my mare and I went to a beautiful property in East Texas a couple of weeks ago to compete in our first ACTHA Competitive Trail Challenge. It was freezing, but we had a blast and ended up placing second in our division! I loved the laid back and positive vibe throughout the event. Everybody was extremely helpful and friendly and overall it was a great experience for both my horse and I.

Bonnie is not amused, especially considering the near-freezing temperatures and misty weather.

Her attitude improved when I discovered carrots at the breakfast table and brought some to her. :P

Aw, beautiful baby!!!

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/
