If I catch whoever did it...it won't be pretty

Most of you are familiar with how we lost DJ back in October 2010. It's made us a bit sensitive about our horses.

Yesterday morning, we looked out to see Rain standing up next to a couple of trees in the lot. Nothing unusual there. Looked out an hour later, and she was standing in the exact same spot. Now, that's unusual.

Went out there, fearing that she was ill or something serious. She was tied to the tree by her tail!!!!!

My first thought was just that she had gotten it tangled, but there is no way she can tie a dang square knot! Didn't take but a couple of minutes to untie the knot and she was free. She slowly sauntered off like nothing happened. We kept a close eye on her all day yesterday and today. She's fine. I am most definitely NOT fine.

It was probably kids. Down the road a bit from us someone opened a gate into a pasture, and about a dozen bulls got out and wandered down the road. You can see another spot where someone got stuck in the mud, and there are a LOT of beer boxes in that same spot. Probably kids out on a pranking spree. They'd better hope I never find out who it was...they won't be able to sit down for a week!

Your poor girl - so glad they didn't do worse to her. I'd be setting up a bit of a watch for the next few nights to see what you can catch and also filing an official report, coupled with the earlier incident it can help build a case strong enough to warrant an extra patrol and document an entire case if/when someone is caught.

Oh my! That is horrible. I am angry for you. I hope you find out who did it and report them for animal cruelty.

Game cameras like what hunters use to scout for deer. Lots of them.

Then turn the evidence over to the Sheriff.

I would be pissed off like nothing else as well, but I gotta say... Rain must be a really good girl to A) allow random people to tie her tail and B) stand there patiently until you could come along to untie her.
