I'm Getting Closer!!!...

I got my first reply to my lease inquiry!!!

A lady said she had one too many horses for her time, so she is looking to lease her 18 year old show mare, Frita. From what she said, Frita is mare-ish and has a little herdbound issue (she either needs to be with the group or completely away from the group). She has owned her for 15 years and she says Frita doesn't have a mean bone in her body (never bucked, kicked, reared, or bit anybody)

She is an awesome trail horse and loves working cows (a HUGE plus to me)

I'll be going to look at her next weekend. Hopefully it will warm up by then.

I'm SOOOO excited!!!

Also: She also has a POA mare I could look at if Frita didn't work out. Would I be too tall to ride her if she is 13.2 hands? (I'm 5'2")

XX Fingers crossed that one of them works out for you . If Frita doesn't work, the POA would not be too small for you.

Hey, Congrats that's great!
Hopefully you will really click with one of them.

Did she share pics with you?

^No pics, but Frita is a bay. My favorite mare is eerily similar in color and temperment. (Maggie had heat issues and was herd-bound in a similar way). I really want to see what the POA looks like. I've looked through a POA magazine and some of them have really cool markings.

Update: I just recieved an e-mail with three more leads. The e-mail adresses were forwarded by a fourth lady, so there were no descriptions of the horses.
  • One lives 3 1/2 hours from me.
    • I don't have the money to drive that far to see a horse I may not even like.
  • The second was a lady suggesting to try to find another lady's contacts so I could see if she had any horses available.
    • Yeah, not wasting my time hunting down Waldo.
  • The third lady is only an hour away, and it only gave her name and e-mail address.
    • I sent her an e-mail, so we will she what she has up for lease.
I'm really interested to see what this third lady has, and I can't wait to see Frita and the POA.

I bet next week end seems like years away to you!
But then I am not very good at waiting.

Now when you find the horse you want to lease, do you have to stable it some where, or do you have room to keep it where you live?

I have an entire pasture, a stall, and a roundpen for me to use at my instructors Barn.

I really hope Frita or the POA works out, because the owner knows my instructor, so there isn't any need for going through an FBI, CIA, and a Secret Service screening to keep the horse there. On top of that, she won't charge me a dime to lease either horse. (I just have to pay my instructor board, and possibly Farrier and Vet bills). Another plus is the owner competes in the Ranch Rodeos I compete in, so we could arrange meetings at the rodeos.

Before I take her horse, she wants to make sure I know how she wants her horse handled (How to tie, groom, exersize, etc.)

And, no, it doesn't feel like years. It feels like Millenia!!! Ugh, even tomorrow can't come fast enough.

Wow!
That sounds like it would be a great "deal", can't really beat that!
I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Yes, I can certainly understand on owner wanting to screen you pretty good before letting you go off with one of their horses... I know I would!
Her knowing your instructor and all that should be helpful in giving you a great recommendation though?

Hope the next Millenia flies by for ya!
Keep me posted, dying to see how things turn out.
Really happy for you!

I'm completely open to her questions, instructions, and inspections. When I talked to her over the phone I had to explain the condition of the fencing, the condition/layout of the shelter (which is the stalls in the back of the barn), and I had to elaborate on my horse experience.
I would be really skeptical if an owner just offered the horse to me with no questions.

And I'll post an update asap after I go to see Frita.
