I'm horrified!

Maybe I just haven't gotten out much, and this is more normal than I am aware of, but I am shaken up about the care of some animals. I saw a craigslist add for Doberman pups in my area, so I went to go see them. I've been looking for a second dobie for a while, and I am kinda picky... But this was so close I had to look. I get there and it's a pretty run down place with a bunch of Shetland ponies in a barn. They looked alright from a distance. Well, anyway I saw the pups... Not docked or cropped, still had dew (sp?) claws. This usually means to me that they haven't seen a vet at all, so I asked to see the parents. I wish I had not. They told me that they were not responsible for the condition of the parents since they were rescues, and they took me into the barn/temple of unhappy animals. First there was a small room with about 20 exotic birds she showed me ( she was pretty proud of her collection). Macaws, african greys, cockatoos... Beautiful, crowded and screaming... I don't care for keeping birds and don't know the norm, so I'm not saying it's abuse.... But it was disturbing. A lot of them had no feathers.

Ok, the dogs in question... The mother was not spayed, male not neutered and kenneled together... Afraid of people, but not starved. At this point I'm not going to buy the pup. These dogs are not rescues... They are ugly breeding dogs they got for free that they keep in the barn. No offense to the dogs... I just don't support what she is doing. Dobies are sensitive dogs that need nurturing.

On the way out I see all the ponies have sleds for hooves(not exaggerating, they were walking on fetlocks) but seemed in ok weight. She had a stud with
about 5 or 6 mares. She then showed me her new baby and mare that "might not make it"... And I might not sleep tonight. The mare was sooo skinny... I've never seen a horse this skinny in person. I could not hide the horror from my face. The hooves were more like logs... Useless looking things, and she was wobbling around nursing a two month old foal... The lady explaining that she does not know why this horse is so skinny, she feeds it so much.... Blah blah blah... Anyway, I can see she feeds her other animals, so I guess she is not starving the pony... I don't like the way she takes care of her animals, but i am usually a live and let live kind of person... The mare made me wanna puke though. Tried to get her to give her to me... But she would not. The mare was worth too much... Being in foal again and all... Even though she said she was going to die a minute ago. Anyway, I lost track of where I was going with this. I feel like I should call the humane society or something... But I dont know if I am over reacting. Only one was starving, so I'm guessing there was an underlying medical condition, but they all needed feet done like two years ago... Sorry about the unorganized ramble. Should I just let it go? Would they do anything anyway? Thanks for any opinions.

My dogs have both got there dew claws, none of my dogs have ever needed them removed, maybe trimmed with the rest, and ive never heard of them being removed :s , my two dogs are perfectly healthy and in no pain at all, the vets do not remove dew claws often unless they need to xxx

I know we have a bunch of horse and dog lovers on here...
But I keep thinking about those birds.
I have an umbrella cockatoo, and let me tell you.
Smart, Smart, Smart. They should never be stuck in a barn, alone.
They are picking feathers due to stress.
I hope a bird rescue gets these guys soon...

I'm with you, I love these parrot breeds. I love them all and if not for having Jack Russells (incorrigible little killing machines), I would happily have another Sun Conure! As it is, I stick to my chickens, they stay out of the dog yard and the dog yard is electric fenced. I HATE animal hoarders and the destruction and damage they cause.
