I'M SO HAPPY; I could cry. But...

As some of may know, my horse and I have had some issues reguard the pasture. Today I went to halter him, he ran and I stood there. I turned my back and stood firm. I was NOT going to chase him. Soon, he walked right to me with his head down ready to be caught. I was so proud.

(My dad can never catch him though, does anyone know why this is?)
He will not come to my dad. He always runs.

I hope you gave him a big reward when he came for his halter! That's great.

As for running away from your Dad -- I'm sure it's something that your Dad is doing that is hurting or threatening the horse. Powers of observation will be the first port of call. It could be at the time of haltering or later and the horse knows that its not going to be a nice time when he goes with Dad for whatever reason.

And some horses just have their favorite people. I had a very opinionated mare several years ago that would only allow particular people to catch her. All I had to do sometimes was step into the pasture and start walking, and the moment she stopped grazing and saw me, she came straight to me (running if she was in the back of the pasture) while I stopped and waited. Halter in full view, wanting to me to catch her. At the same time, she would play the game of catch me if you can with others. Horses can be particular of who they like and who they don't. Could be because they don't trust that person, or they feel like they can get away with that behavior.

Glad that your horse chose to come to you, it is certainly an occasion to celebrate when you have had to work to get to this point. Congratulations!
