I'm such a mean horse mommy!

We have gotten crazy amounts of snow this winter here in Alberta and now it is snowing some more and is not going to quit for about a week the forecast says!!!

My mare Berdi has finished the round bales I had stored in the shelter so I had to haul over some squares from the llama shed in our yard. Its a short distance from the llama shed to the horse shelter. I grabbed my sled and waded through hip deep snow to the llama shed. Loaded up a bale and started pulling. However the sled sunk down in the snow and I'm hip deep in snow!!! It was NOT working! Lol!

I then thought of Berdi. She's a strong solid QH and I decided I'd hook her up for pulling. I don't have a real harness so I took a thick, soft cotton lead and tied it around her chest to her withers. (I was worried she might get rope burn, so I had to keep checking it.) Then I attached long ropes on each side of her and tied it onto the bale of hay. She started pulling it, but was nearly running me over trying to leap through the snow. So I jumped on her and we kept going. She looked at me like, "Are you kidding? I pull and carry you and you ride???!!" Anyhow, she plowed through the snow with her ears perked forward and we pulled a couple bales to the shelter. We'll be doing more Tuesday as I'm not working.

Anyhow, I'm glad Berdi is so strong and is so willing! She will basically do anything for me if she understands what I want. She has such an honest attitude about everything and is not lazy at all! Today she really got to work for her meals!! Lol!

Haha! That's awesome she was so good about it!
Pretty sure if I tried that with Amir, he'd start running and just not stop til the scary thing behind him stopped.

Thank-you! I was really pleased she took to it so well! She's going to get some more work to do tomorrow. I'll try to take some pictures and post them.
