Not sure what catagory this goes in....

But does anyone here insure their horses? I'm about to lease a horse of mine out so i'm looking for a good company to insure him with. Thanks!

We did insure our horses last year, but not this year. We were only pleasure riding them, not competing and not really jumping either.

Though I do know the insurance will help out if your horse needs colic surgery, and things along those lines, but i'm not sure if first you have to pay for it and then the insurance company reimburses you.

It's always a good thing to have.

Yeah, I figured we'd get mortality/theft and then major medical with emergency surgery coverage. It came out to be a bit over $500 a year. Is that about what you paid? Which company did you go with?

We paid $250 for the year. We went with Hartford insurance.
