    It's Getting Warmer - Serious, Friendly Reminder

    As we all know summer is just around the corner and my area had a small taste of it today. It was 83 degrees around 3:30pm. I know it's been hotter in other areas as well. A friend in Fl says they've already had soem 90 degree days.

    Just a reminder to keep yourself properly hydrated and fed up. Also, to not push yourself to exhaustion.

    Today I was running, running, running all day and only managed to scarf down a yogurt real quick before I had to work with a horse. I was working with a particulary pushy horse and said horse managed to break a piece of tack. As I walked back to the trailer to replace it I started to feel strange. I immediately text my BO's wife (who was home) to see if she could bring me out a bottle of water.

    The minute I turned and started walking back towards the house I could see black forming at the corners of my eyes. I'm extremely greatful she brought out a gallon jug of water haha. I downed half that thing. I started sipping and felt like I was going to fall over. I told her I had to sit down and she asked if I had anything to eat and I realized I had only eaten yogurt today. She had her son run back into the house to grab a protein bar and banana for me. I'm so glad they did because I was seriously dizzy and the black forming in my vision tells me I was getting ready to pass out.

    - Drink lots of water. The more you sweat the more you should drink.
    - Don't over work yourself (or your horse)
    - Make sure you're eating (My big problem is I forget to eat)
    - If you feel "funny" or "strange" stop what you're doing and sit down/drink something/ eat something (nothing sugary)

    Just be in tune with your body and if something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't.

    No kidding, thanks for reminding us. Funny that Wednesday I had a similar experience. Got out to the barn, wanted to ride but was feeling weak. Gulped down some water and rode. By the time I got my mare back out into the pasture I just needed to lie down. So I did. In the pasture!
    I couldn't figure out what was going on, just at all of a sudden it was so hot and humid outside.
    No more skipping lunch for me!

    I find that when the weather warms up, I'm close to passing out a lot quicker. I'm anemic and don't take anything for it, so when I'm at my job, I MUST eat something the second I my stomach feels "off" or I will drop in the next hour. And that's a bit dangerous seeing I work with traffic. So I eat basically all day.

    Gatoraid is another life saver for me. In the summer when it gets too hot, I can't process caffiene gracefully. My body dehydrates too quickly because I'm a sweater (I sweat in the dead of winter even when I'm cold, which makes me colder because my clothes get damp) so I have to have some type of liquid next to me at all times when temperatures hit around 80.

    Green Broke
    I am really bad about forgetting to eat and I am never hydrated enough. I get horribly dizzy and headachy when I forget. And its always much worse in the hot weather. I'll be trimming horses this year though, so I'm going to start toting around a little cooler of water and snacks in the car so I won't make myself sick.
