I don't have any horsey friends, so no one will be able to relate to the absolute elation I am feeling today. I bought my first horse and I am floating on cloud nine! After a few weeks of leasing this boy, I have realized that he and I are meant to be.
He's an 8 year old gelding. We measured him today at 5.1 hands and he is a Curly horse. He's fun to ride and his ground manners are wonderful. We live in the suburbs so he is boarded at the base of a mountain. There are miles of BLM land to ride on there and it's only about a 20 minute drive. He has a girlfriend on the corals on either side of him and they are always a little upset when I take him out. They both knicker like crazy when he comes back though! I just love him!!!
Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! Think of the many wonderful days, weeks, years you'll spend - I've owned my horse since April, and am still on cloud 9!
He's not very curly. His fetlocks curl quite a bit and his hair turns to ringlets when he's sweaty. When he's dry it's more wavy. His previous owners (not the one I just bought him from) , thought he was a Freisan. Uh, aren't Freisans supposed to be black? Anyway, he was in a very bad home a few months ago. The details make me want to cry. However, he is in a beautiful place now and seems to be a happy boy!
Sorry, did not read through the posts before I asked the questions you already answered.
I have had my guy for three weeks and miss him terribly on the days I cannot be with him. Just ran out there tonight to get a quick pat in!
Very excited for you!
I know how that is. I got my first horse when I was 18 yr old, I think for all 18 yrs leading up to that I had been begging for one. My dad even said to me the day I got him was "Here, take the cash and shut up about wanting a horse!" but I was on too much of a high to even let that get me down
Even to this day when I add another addition I get all giddy inside like its Christmas Morning. Congrats and I wish you all the luck!
I had a Curly for awhile-he had a thick mane on both sides of his neck, & it naturally fell into dreadlocks. I'd sometimes comb it out, but it would all be back by the next day-he was nearly black, very stocky & did look like a mini-Freisian. I do believe some Freisian's aren't black-maybe someone will chime in on that.
Congratulations on your purchase, may he be the first of many
Cacowgirl - friesians are only eligible for registration if they are black - occasionally you'll get a throw back 'red' friesian, highly undesirable in the breed.
Congrats!!!! I am so glad you found a friend to love on. There isn't a love that can match a girl and her horse (sorry feisty hubby!!!) Good luck with him!!!
I just got my first horse last fall. I'm having a check-writing frenzy right now (farrier, chiro, board) and I'm STILL thrilled to death to have him. There is nothing at all like the feeling when I cross the field and he picks his head up, sees me coming, and walks over to greet me. I just want to melt.
Enjoy it!
