    Just for fun...

Aires turned 2.5-years-old today (forgot until just now...bad horsey mom! Lol) and thinking about that got me thinking that his birthday is only six months away.

So, do any of you celebrate your horse's birthdays? If so, what do you do?

I will be in Washington state for a week before his birthday, but I kind of wanted to do something special for him. I know, I'm a dork, but I don't have custody of my son, so we don't get to do special stuff for his birthday, and I don't know my dog's birthday (he's a pound puppy), so I have to substitute with whatever I can. Besides, the BO, who I'm buying Aires from, doesn't pay attention to stuff like that, so I thought it'd be nice to make it a special day for him. Yeah, it's more for me than it is for him. I get that, so please don't point it out.

I was thinking of getting him something for his birthday, but I'm not sure what. When I got him, I wanted to get a halter with his name on it, but with as massive as his head is and the fact that he's still growing, I kind of want to hold off on that (he wears a draft-size bridle that is on the third smallest hole...at 2.5! ). He's not big into treats, plus I'm not a fan of giving him treats because with the few he does like, he gets nippy after he has them (he loves the oat and apple treats my friend has, but that's about it). I was thinking maybe a set of nice (red) SMBs would be kinda cool. Any other thoughts?

I think Aires would really like a buddy for his birthday.

Edit: Not exactly a buddy, more like a brother or sister. Isn't that what every horse wants? Koolio wants a little welsh x sister for Christmas...

Oh, I'm sure Aires would LOVE buddy for Christmas. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to pay for two horses. If I could afford two, I would already have two (the second being in the form of my old gelding, who was offered back to me for free on the same day I was offered Aires...that was a tough decision to make ).

Does he have any toys in his paddock? Since he doesn't have a buddy, that might be the way to go. No suggestions from me, I am not very informed with horse toy world. I am sure you would be able to look online and fine some that are cheap.

He has a jolly ball that he loves. I got him the jolly ball to keep him from destroying his feed bucket. I was cleaning his stall one day and I had moved the jolly ball out of the way and the little bugger picked it up and brought it over to me, then stood there swinging it back and forth while I continued to clean. Lol His stall isn't big enough for much other than the jolly ball (it's 15ft by 30ft or so) and the BO doesn't allow things to hang in the stalls other than feed buckets.

He has a neighbor (Paco...mean little sonofamotherlessgoat), so he isn't completely alone. Plus he's at a boarding facility with 40-some other horses, so it's not exactly like he's lonely.

When Rodeo turned 1 year old, I had just gotten my leather halter, and his name plate in for him. Was no where near small enough to fit his head, and even on the smallest setting, its still a little too big on him.

I also got him some apples, which apparently he never got the chance to try. By the time his birthday came around, I had only had him a little over a month, and it took a good 2-3 months to gain his trust and respect, but he eventually ate them later that day.

He will be 2 years old April 11th!!! So a little over 4 months away, no idea what Im planning on this year, but I will be for sure celebrating it with him, although he has no idea what the occasion is! LMAO

Since he was born sometime in April, I hose him down and turn him loose in an arena so he can roll and get absolutely dirty, then I hand graze him till the sun goes down and then spend the evening currying him till he falls asleep. Then he gets a nice big ol' apple before I turn him out with his buds.

Oh and sometimes I braid his mane and tail so when I turn him out, he has really wild waves :P

I am having problems with finding Casey's birth date! She used to be registered but that was for like 2 months when I first got her and it never crossed my mind. I have had her for three years. I just do the racehorse thing, she's another year older on January 1st, turning 13 soon!

My friend's horse was never registered, she made his birthday a day after hers!
