Oh God. I'm sorry if this makes anyone's eyes bleed. This is from my second horse camp ever, back in 2009. Which meant my sum total of riding experience before this was about six, seven rides.

The Quarter Horse in that picture was named Boo. This was back when I rode Western.

Here I am on the last day of the camp.

Now a picture just for fun. If I was pressed, I think I'd say that the horse closest to me has the most personality I've seen yet. He was the goofiest, dumbest thing. His name was Cruiser.

In 1957 when I was 10, we moved to Southwest Missouri and my father bought a TWH for my little sister, who was 7, and a Quarter/Shetland cross for me. And yes, we rode our horses (by ourselves) to the one room country school we attended near Goodman, Mo, which was about 6 miles from where we lived. My mother took this picture as we got ready to head out to school. Times were obviously much different back then...

I love this thread! Thanks for starting the idea back up Alex. I will have to dig for some more but here's a few.

Not riding but this is probably my favorite picture of me. I'm the one in the lifejacket

On the dun at the back on the inside (Yes, the QH girl showed Hunt Seat)

Taking a cousin for a ride, I'm on the back. The mare was my first that was totally mine, a sweetheart of a mare that came from the King Ranch. Bunny was my true heart horse. I still miss her like crazy :(

I think I was probably 18 or 19 here on Bubbles, my second heart horse. She always had a knack for trashing her braids. The black horse in the background is my old lady, Buttons.

Where did the horses go once you got to school? Did they stand tied all day?

I can only find one right now, but I think it's kind of cute. I was 4 or 5. The pony is a lesson pony from the barn I rode at named Freckles. That pony took really good care of me. Freckles was the pony I rode more often than any of the others. Didn't have a mean bone in his body.

This is me on my very first horse Victor, an Arabian. I got him in November of 1994, but for some reason this is the only pic I can find at the moment...this was taken in May 1995.

Hidden away somewhere at my mom's is a photo of me on the first horse I ever rode. I was three, so it would have been 1978 or 1979. I actually remember riding it...a beautiful white horse. My memory does not match the photo though, because in the photo it's actually this broke down looking white mule, lol. It sure was beautiful to me at the time! LOL

Ok guys, don't laugh too hard.

This was maybe the second time I had ever been on a horse. I was super jealous that my brother got to sit in the saddle and I had to sit like that. Hahaha
And of course, what are we riding? Oh yeah, just an old lady Arabian.

There was a small "coral" - actually what we would call a roundpen now, on the downwind side of the school next to the outhouse. There were 28 kids in the school, which was 8 grades, and 6 or 7 of us rode horses - the rest were close enough to walk or ride their bikes. We rode our bikes once in a while, but the bikes back then were very thick and heavy steel with those big balloon tires, and hard to ride very far on rocky roads - and impossible to ride up hills...you had to walk bikes up the hills...no gears back then. It all probably sounds strange to young people today, but in that day and time your parents simply did not take their kids to school. In my entire childhood not once did my parents take me to school...and if they had I would have been ashamed. Kids were of much tougher ilk back then...
