I think this is in the right section... Anyway, i just came back from my riding lesson, and it was good and all, of course.
But, while i was riding, this woman (like she came in a huge group and were camping right nearby) and started taking pictures of me...:? I dont really want strangers taking pictures of me while riding you know? But she was also taking pictures of the other riders in my lesson. The instructor then said "if you want to take pictures, you have to go to the other side of the arena". But i didnt want pictures of me taken at all!:-x I didnt say anything as she walked back to the group after that. I think they were campers or something...
So my question is, is that legal? Im photo shy enough as it is, but strangers taking pictures of me while im riding?! :? Cookies for you if you read all of that!
Depends. Were you on public property, or was the person standing on public property? If so, did they have permission from someone to take photos of the group? If not, she can't use the photos in any legal sense unless she has a legal agreement between you two. If you were on public property, or someone gave her permission, you don't have much of a leg to stand on. If this happens again, speak up. I find it odd that the instructor didn't speak up if the person wasn't allowed to photograph on the property.

If a person is out in the public, they have no reasonable "right to privacy". People can take pictures of them all day, whether they like it or not. What they cannot do is sell them for profit without a model's release.
On private property, you have the right to request they not take your picture if they are on your property.
I don't believe it's illegal if they are just taking pictures for personal reasons. If is to be published or used in video or tv, they need permission. You could go over and let them know you don't like having your picture taken, but that really makes a big deal out of nothing. I personally don't like my picture taken either. I've found or at least like the pictures better, when I ignore that the pictures are being taken. I really hate posing for pictures because they seem so fake.
Next time if you don't feel comfortable about it, say something to your instructor or the person taking the pictures. I'm sure they would respect your request to stop taking them,
Yeah, whereas it's not technically illegal depending on what she's using them for, if I was in a riding lesson I would definitely say something to my instructor. I'm not paying for riding lessons so I can get all screwed up and flustered because someone is taking my photo without permission.
Just mention you have a problem with it and I'm sure they'll accommodate you.
I wouldn't wait "until it happens again." Approach the instructor / BO and tell them how you feel and be proactive about it -- not defensive. It will be received better by the staff.
^^ Was it at Glenworth? It would feel strange.
Also, HEAPS of tourist go there (as you know) I am sure that they were just probably interested in the horses? Maybe but I am not sure.....
But I would feel weird if someone was taking photos of me
