heres my freebie!

Shes between 10-13 year old Qh X pony mare. She was going to auction if i didnt take her. My friends mom was looking for a free horse to call her own so she posted an ad on craigslist about looking for a free horse and she got an email about two 'beginner safe' horses that were abandoned at their barn and had been there for quite some time. They didnt have time for them so they needed to get rid of them ASAP. I was told my mare was a QH who was 15 hands. So we go and look at them and they are in some pretty crummy conditions. The standardbred who my friends mom took was skinny under his winter blankie. Had a sore on his wither from the blanket rubbing and his feet were way overgrown. She said to us (and i quote)- "We usually dont get there feet done until they start to curl because we cant afford it being they were left here" UHM WHAT?!

So anyway we ended up taking both. My friends mom took the Standie and i took the mare, who is missing an eye. She was hit by a drunk driver in the horse trailer and then abandoned at the barn. Shes got some issues and can be a huge snot or the most bombproof pony. Shes a mare so i guess i have to live with her bipoalr moods. and by te way shes really around 14.2....not 15 hands haha. the first picture is of when i first got her in March and the second is from last week at our first show.

Cowgirls, what a wonderful transformation!

Here's my latest freebie. Of course, they never STAY free!

The first pic is what I call a 'glamour shot'. That unhappy young man holding him was his groom. He was NOT amused that JJ was being given away.

These are my freebies:

This summer (middle of July), I was given a 3 month old filly. Her mother died and she hadn't been getting the nutrients that she needed. The owners didn't think they had the time or knowledge to raise an orpan. So they gave her to me.

Here she is the day I got her. (3 months old) She hadn't been touch prior to coming to my house.

Here she is now...six weeks later.

We're still working on getting her up to the size she should be for an almost 5 month old.

Not sure if this girl counts as a freebie since basically I did $50 worth halter breaking on other foals in exchange for her. She had a huge hernia and the owners said she kept trying to climb the walls when they walked into the stall with her. They couldn't touch her.

I walked in, and was touching her in less than 5 minutes and not long after that, she followed me right onto my trailer. It was either take her or they were sending her to slaughter.

This picture was after I brought her home. You can see her hernia. We had that taken care of not long after she got here.

Here she is now as a 2 1/2 yr old. I just started her under saddle.

I have a freebie! He is my 9 yr old OTTB. I got him from a college student who didn't have time for him anymore last December! Love him to death, even if he is rotten! I don't have a great picture of him, but you can see his head shot in my avitar.

This is my freebie!

Hawkeye was a 19yr old Grey Polish arab we aquired when his old owners (bred and raised on their farm) moved to AZ. he had horrid skin cancer from when he was 12? i think to the day we put him down because of it....but he was my old man

There was one day, it was the day after he got his feet trimmed....he always had horrid feet, he foundered soooo easily and got absesses alot....
he couldnt stand up...he was just laying down all day.

i had been at a JROTC competition, i came home, nobody else was here and i went out to check on my kids...i remember it was a very very cold november day.

i got out, and Hawk was laying on his side, groaning. Every once in a while he would raise his head and try to get up but he couldnt. I immediately called my mom, no answer....called my dad, same deal. by now i was bawling my eyes out, i knew he was probably dying, my phone died as i tried to call my trainer.

i ran to the shed, grabbed a bucket and started bringing him bucket after bucket of water....he drank probably 6-7 buckets of water, then layed his head back down.
i ran inside, plugged my phone in and grabbed the emergency phone and my carhart, then ran back out and sat in his stall with his head in my lap, feeding him handfuls of hay, and getting him water...

my dad got home a few hours later and found us both asleep, his head still in my lap, my leg pretty much soaked in his drool (hehe old man lips) then right after that my mom called, then my trainer, and hawkeye stood up and ate his dinner after that.

We put him down memorial weekend of '07 at 26 yrs old when his cancer became too much.

*Insert something witty*

My guy and most of the ones I work with were bailed out of auctions/the meat truck, so I don't count them as freebies.

The new guy at the barn was a freebie. 5 year OTTB, just came off the track in June. He was at a place in NJ or NH training to be a fox hunter. They said he didn't "have the mind" for fox hunting so they gave him away. He's a silly boy, riding him for the first time tonight. He's only been here a week and a half.

Day after arrival, all sweaty from running around yelling at the other horses.
