I am trying to find a rescue in or around the area. I have been looking at auctions and other places but I am looking for another horse. I want another quarter horse or non gaited creature. We have enough gaited horses as it is but only two non gaited and one is just a pasture ornament and the other I retired when he turned twelve. So, I am now looking. I want a youngster preferably but will consider anything under the age of ten.
It would take me a lot to go through a rescue so I won't bother with my time to google them, but have you tried search sites? I imagine you will find tons of free or real cheap horses on the likes of craigslist or dream horse or equine or...
I cant tell you know there isnt many rescues in TN believe me i've looked plus you dont get much info on the horses back ground and the horses are mostly older.
Blah....I hate craigslist is my problem. People want an arm and a leg for nothing. I found one yearling I fell in love with and the owner sent me more pictures and they were already riding her. :-( They also wanted $3000 for her.
I don't know exactly what you're looking for, but just browsing for cheap and quarter horse, here's a sample. None are over $1000, most are at $500obo.
I have a 4 1/2yo mare I am training now. I have had her a few years though but she is despirate for a pasture buddy that wont torture her. She is low man on the totum pole and every bites and kicks her to death so she has to stay alone. I will try and get a hold of them tomorrow and go look at the little girl.
Yes I know. They actually have pictures of them riding her somewhere. I dont think I saved them when they sent them to me. I feel bad for her. At first they price her like she was gold but I guess they see she wasnt going anywhere for that price.
We have the same problem here, I regularly surf around looking at horses for sale. The biggest drop I saw was for a nice warmblood filly that went from $10k to $1k OBO in a matter of 2 months time.
Just go to an auction and 'rescue' your own. You can buy some pretty nice yearlings and 2 year olds here at the local auction for $100.00 to $1000.00 depending on breeding and looks. Some really well-bred and really nice one go through for under $500.00 every sale.
The main thing with any new horse (but particularly from an auction) is to isolate them for 2 weeks. We give young ones Penicillin for 3 days. It will keep them from getting Strangles if they are not already carrying it. It won't help for the Flu or Rhino.
If you handle a new horse, do it at the end of the day and do not go and handle your other horses after handling them. People and dogs spread most diseases from new horses to other horses.
we have about an acre dry lot on the back side of our property where not other horses are that we use to isolate. Our auctions so far suck. The only thing I have seen are used and abused old twhs and then horses up in their late teens and early twenties. The only reason I wanted a non gaited is because we have three walkers and two that are getting rode six days a week and I really just want another a qh/paint or non gaited mutt. Not specific about breed or color. I do prefer mares over geldings anyday.
When ever I use a big search engine like google, yahoo, or aol it locks my computer up for some reason. I can go directly to any website but as soon as I use a search engine my computer just stops.
I got y daughters old pony at a sale in ky for 45$.There is a sale in Elkton ky that the Amish put on, and they always have at least 50 standardbreds go through. They go for pretty cheap as well. If you adopt from a rescue, your chances of getting one of these sale horses is high, so mise well go to the source. Posted via Mobile Device
here is were my complication is. I dont really care about breed or color but I really want an arabian which my husband will never allow to step on our farm. He is in the market for an irish sport horse or something he can do cross country with. I dont show or compete. I never will so to me nothing but temperment and disposition is important. But with what he is wanting we are looking at throwing a lot more money into. I usually have my way soo....I dont know alot about standard breds but Im assuming you can jump them ?!?!
It is a shame that your husband feels that way about Arabs. I use to work with Arab race horses and my best friend has Arabs. They get such a bad rap, but really are wonderful intelligent horses.
we went and looked at the gray and white paint filly. they laughed when i offered them $500 and told me i was trying to steal her for that. really? I paid $450 last year for a registered twh 7yo with trail and show experience. Posted via Mobile Device
I would be happy to send a list of all the rescues in NC. I'm in the process of creating an interactive website for all the horse related nonprofits in NC so I've compiled a list. Let me know if you are interested.
We are in the heart of 'horse country'. A friend bought a project 2 year old 2 weeks ago for $800.00. His sire stands for $2500.00 and his dam is a well-bred cutting mare that won a few dollars in the cutting pen. A gelding sold at the same sale for $3500.00. He, too, had won a little cutting money but was not good enough to haul. Someone will make a team sorting horse out of him or sell him to a team sorter.
We are less than a one-day trip from the Mexican border, so every horse is worth killer price. A 1000# horse without ribs showing is worth about $200.00. A slick, fat, open broodmare weighing 1250# or more is still worth about $500.00 to $600.00. Thin 700# 2 year olds will be set in at $80.00 to $100.00, more if they are registered and have good breeding or have a lot of color. We have a lot of really well-bred horses here. We also have a lot of traders that come to this sale including the main killer buyer.
