You can buy some pretty nice yearlings and 2 year olds here at the local auction for $100.00 to $1000.0
Wow that's more than you get around here. It usually is a $5 sale or "you bought his friend your getting the other one for free"

I got y daughters old pony at a sale in ky for 45$.There is a sale in Elkton ky that the Amish put on, and they always have at least 50 standardbreds go through. They go for pretty cheap as well. If you adopt from a rescue, your chances of getting one of these sale horses is high, so mise well go to the source.

Here is were my complication is. I don't really care about breed or color but I really want an arabian which my husband will never allow to step on our farm. He is in the market for an irish sport horse or something he can do cross country with. I don't show or compete. I never will so to me nothing but temperment and disposition is important. But with what he is wanting we are looking at throwing a lot more money into. I usually have my way soo....I don't know alot about standard breds but Im assuming you can jump them ?!?!

I would definitely recommend Central Virginia Horse Rescue. My friend just adopted a horse from them about 2 months ago and he is wonderful! The place is not fancy, but they really care about what they do. The adoption fees are very reasonable. As Joe4d said, not intrusive, not a lot of strings. They just want to find good homes for the horses.

I would suggest staying away from Kentucky Equine Humane Center, they are a shady bunch and they will NOT disclose medical issues. Ask me how I know.

It is a shame that your husband feels that way about Arabs. I use to work with Arab race horses and my best friend has Arabs. They get such a bad rap, but really are wonderful intelligent horses.

We went and looked at the gray and white paint filly. They laughed when I offered them $500 and told me I was trying to steal her for that. Really? I paid $450 last year for a registered twh 7yo with trail and show experience.

I would be happy to send a list of all the rescues in NC. I'm in the process of creating an interactive website for all the horse related nonprofits in NC so I've compiled a list. Let me know if you are interested.
