Manege Advice Please!

I am thinking of re-planning/re-building (partly) the manege in my riding school over the next week or so and I was wondering if some people who are experienced in this rather complicated business? I will state the basic conditions below:

Location, size etc. etc.

Best thing to do is give a plan:

There was basic guttering infront of the manege at one time but that has apparently filled in with dirt over time which basically makes it non-existent! I should also stress that this area has been cut out of a steep bank and so there is considerable drainage from there sometimes.
Conditions - Manege is basically just dirt ( :( ) with an occasional sprinkle of woodchip which doesn't last long --- turns stony in the summer and floods in the winter!
Soil structure --- clay
Temperature range --- when ridden you are probably looking between 5-25 degrees C although the actual temperature range is greater.
Rainfall - I live in Wales, we count rainfall per day in metres.

The Basic Plan

Here comes another paint job:

The drainage trenches will be every 4 metres or so - I may also construct capillary channels inbetween also.
I'm not sure whether I need piping in this system or whether a hardcore base and some pond liner would be able to channel effectively or maybe just the loose stones and compacted earth?

What does everyone think + if someone could give me some idea on the general measurements needed I would be grateful.
