mare not growing a coat... blanket?

Hi all! :)
I was not going to blanket any of my horses this year. But my new mare is not growing a coat,... its very very soft , not too long or thick. And she is on out door board, Should I get a blanket for her ( I was thinking a 3 season??) or should I let her use what she has since it is late to start blanketing now?
I feel bad everytime I see her out side and it is windy :(

Do you ride her hard in a heated arena? If you do then probably would just so that you didnt have to dry her off everytime you rode.

I hardly ride at all right now. No arena.,. And my horses have not broken a sweat with me riding them in about a year! Hahahaha

I would just keep an eye on her. Some horses don't grow long coats. My TWH mare grew a 3-4" coat while her 1/2 brother just grew a 1/2" thick/soft coat. He never showed signs of being cold or uncomfortable. The two horses I have right now have short thick/soft coats and they are comfy too. Just make sure that she is getting a good amount of hay and has adequate shelter and she should be fine. If she is acting cold and is getting limited hay, up the hay first and if that doesn't help then put a blanket on her.

Yeah, if theres no arena then I would feel bad if you blanketed them then rode them, because I would think they might get cold, ahaha but that just might be me. I think if she has enough food then she should be fine :)

Thanks! :) The have a great shelter plus a tree line. I will keep an eye on her then, they have unlimited hay and water. And on realy bad nights she can be brought in

She's probably fine then

I agree with MN T -- it took my mare 2 full winters to get the kind of coat I'm used to seeing, but she never seemed to be cold. With the shelter you have, food and just casual riding I think she'll be fine too.
