Question Might be getting first horse!

There is a horse that I have been going to see or the past 2 years. I've been working really hard with her on groundwork and respect. I've known that her owner wants to sell her ever since I started going out there. Then out of the blue her owner texted me and asked if I would like to buy her....for $400! She used to be broke to ride, but they have not ridden her in around 2 years. SHe is 15 or 16 years old i'm not sure. She is not in the best condition since she is mostly a "Pet Dog" where she is. I'm not sure what questions I should ask before we buy her since I do know a lot about her. It's really hard because I love her a lot. I would hate to see her got to someone else.

First of all, what do you plan on doing?

If you plan on riding(which I assume you do) then how much experience have you had? I would ask the owner to ride the horse and see how well that goes. If this horse hasn't been ridden in a few years, he may need to go through a little training. Also, what do you already know about the horse?
Another thing: do you have the extra time/money to care for a horse? Moneywise, the initial price is not what matters the most. There will be feeding, tack, vet, farrier, training, supplies, upkeep, etc. bills.

If this is all fine and dandy by you, then this first horse could be an incredible experience!
Good luck
