mini horse accident today :(

ok so i was riding my mare today.and im kind of re-training her.and we were working on flat just basic walk jog stuff. and so i decided to walk her around the whole "yard" and there was a hole in this on spot a couple months ago but they filled it in. rained like all day yesterday. ugh..hate rain! but u know i want her to get used to doing different things.but we have walked over this hole like multiple times over the past couple months.its totally safe. so i walked up to it.and she stopped.and so i asked her to move on and she wouldn't i made her go.but stupid me of course wouldn't listen to my horses insincts and she went and all of a sudden i felt her front end just go down.and it was like quick sand.i was sooo scared.

so she tried to jump out and so she got her front legs out and then her back legs went in i jumped off and by now it was only a foot fall because she was basically laying on the ground. but i got off and she jumped out.i was sooo scared. i walked her around to make sure she was ok and stuff.she was fine.besides it being cold here and her having freezing mud up past her was just glad she was ok.i was soo scared she was going to break her legs or something! i figured when i jumped off thats 115 pounds she doesn't have to carry.

im glad shes ok! that was my scary riding story of the day! lol.stupid me should have listened to her!

If my horse doesn't like you then I don't either.Deal with it!

Glad you both came out OK. Odd though how it went from soft to quicksand-like just overnight with all the rain. Must have had a LOT of rain. I know I've been avoiding my usual bush trails because of the rain up here. Since last weekend, the streams are up at least 8"; maybe a foot.

This is a good warning for all of us to pay attention to the changes around us.

It always seems like that kind of thing happens in slow motion doesnt it? Like seconds seem like minutes! I'm glad you were able to think in that situation!

That must have been so scary! Don't blame yourself too much - you couldn't have known. You did all you could to help her which is all you can expect yourself to do. I've heard people say, horses don't forget, but they often forgive. I'm sure your mare will forgive you - she sounds like a nice little girl.
I guess its a lesson learned for you in how easily an quickly accidents can happen!

Wow, im glad you are both ok!. I had a similar incident. A few years ago I was riding in the winter time in our hay feild with my arab. Everything was great than she just stopped and wouldnt budge a muscle and started doing the side jumps and twists and rearing. So I was like ok whatever and walked around a different way.

Thinking maybe something was under the snow (like the harrows or something) I went to investigate. Come to find out I was asking her to walk across a hidden sheet of ice! Wow did I feel stupid...wonder what she as saying to me at the time ?

A Dog looks up to a man,
A cat looks down on a man,
But a patient horse looks a man in the eye and sees him as an equal

ohh that scary too.i remember one time the same mare used to belong to my uncle and my cousin was riding her a couple years ago...and she went over a little thing of ice and fell wasn't a pond or anything but it was like a little puddle and there was like a couple inches of snow over it so you couldn't c it.that was even scary to ice can cut much worse than mud :)

even after rain for a couple days you have to be careful going down hills especially in fall because you don't know if its slippery because of the leaves.ugh..i hate things like that!

If my horse doesn't like you then I don't either.Deal with it!
