Moving from Socal to Prescott Valley Az, what to expect?

Hi all, Im new to the forum and have a few questions. My family and I are moving this summer from So Cal where our horses are boarded to a new home on 10 acres in Prescott Valley Az. We will be setting up new facilities for our two horses ( one 10 yo Paint mare and one 18 yo Arabian Gelding ) along with my 13 yo daughters 4H project Heifer. I will be setting up stalls and a Mare Motel at the least (if there is enough money a Barn) Were trying to think of everything before setting up the facilities and any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Weather here in SoCal isnt quite as cold as Prescott Valley so this is my biggest concern.

    Will my horses need blankets?

Will my waterers need to be heated so they don't freeze??

Also transportation, We don't own a trailer (yet) so what will that cost me and where do I look for it?

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks Phil

I live in phoenix which is pretty close to Prescott. Prescott is really beautiful and an ideal place to live in AZ in my opinion because the summers don't get too hot. The winters do get a bit cold though. This week we have a cold snap going through so I checked and they are having highs in the mid 30's-low 40's with lows in the high teens to twenties. They are also getting some snow, but I don't think they ever get an excessive amount. Your horses may need blankets just depending on how thick of coats they get. I think you will really enjoy Prescott, especially in the summers. AZ is a great state to live in!
I'm not sure about transportation. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you with that.

There may be some snow, but generally not a lot. Not like Flagstaff or even Prescott itself. Once you leave Prescott and start driving toward the valley you're steadily going down in elevation on your way to the junction of 17. It may be colder than what you're used to but not Wyoming-cold. More important than blankets though is a continuous source of hay on cold nights, as the metabolic processes are what generate body heat and hair growth in horses!
