My first custom saddle!

Yesterday was a pretty good day for me. I ordered my first custom saddle and only my second brand new saddle ever. It's a 17" wade tree with a 3 1/2 by 3 inch horn, 5 inch high by 11 inch wide semi shovel cantle. The gullet is 6 wide by 7 high (I think). The gullet is the most important part to me as I want to make sure that this saddle fits a large variety of horses. The bars are what's called Northwest bars by the tree maker Sonny Felkins.

I give all these specs because I'd like to know what you guys think of it and what you'd do different. What are the specs on osme of your saddles and what would you like to change on them?

Sounds nice. Can you post pictures when you get it?

In three months I will!

Green Broke
I recently got my custom saddle from Jason McKenzie and love it! It's a Wade and I sent a tracing of my horse's back. I don't remember who made the tree, but it's suppose to fit 95% of the horses out there. So far it's fits my 2 Arabs and a Quarter horse. Can't wait for you to post some photos!

Go ahead and post some of yours.

You've told us who made the tree but who is making the saddle? A custom tree may fit your horse now but what about in a couple of years as he ages and his fitness changes.

It's not made to fit one particular horse. A lot of times I ride several horse per day and they may all look different.

A guy named Jason Dalton is making the saddle.

Kevinshorses, haven't heard of the semi shovel cantle, tell us more.

No experiences to share, but I like the look of the Wade type saddles, especially for working saddles. This is exciting, can't wait to see it!

Congratulations with your custom saddle
Looking forward to the pictures

It's just a shape of the cantle. It's not quite as deep as a shovel cantle.
