My first time half leasing a horse!?

I'm gong to go meet the horse who I might be half leasing tomorrow. I really went to make a good impression to them because I would really like to lease this horse. She is giving me such a good deal ($50) Because someone else will be leasing him too. I'm freaking out that I'm going to do something wrong and she won't let me lease him. I need to know some tips on how to be confident while riding a new horse.

Relax a little! Easier said than done though, I know.

If you make a mistake and the owner for some odd reason does not know the definition of "mistake", then the lease arrangement probably isn't worth your time. Just brush yourself off and keep looking for a better match.

I was always told being too nervous, tense, and stressed travels down the lead rope (or reins). I think if you take a deep breath, keep in mind what you know, and look towards the bright side you will do fine.

Good luck!

Agreed! Just be confident and understand that you are an educated rider. I don't know your experience level, but if you are leasing a horse, it's likely that you are ready to do so. And also, remember, it's a half lease. So it is probably not as demanding for you. I hope it works out. Be confident and be cool (:

God bless, englishaqh (:

Hi mellmeme,

I've been in your situation before and know how you feel! Looking back on my first experiences looking into leasing I think the best thing to do is be honest about what you know and what you don't know. Don't try to impress anyone. Confidence is something that can't be borrowed. When buying a horse a friend advised me to never ride before you have seen the owner ride. I'd recommend the same for leasing. Being smart and safe is better than being overconfident or pretending to be confident and risky, especially when it comes to leasing someone elses horse. Not sure whether that applies to your unique situation or not.

Best of luck,
Clay
